i would have thought it was worth a mention or something, 100 years. It's a comercial opportunity to sell stuff with the 100 years of bcfc on it. |

Isn't it 100 years of being Birmingham Football Club? I read somewhere that they didn't put the 'City' moniker on until after the Second World War... |

Correct nick p - we changed our name from Small heath to just birmingham in 1905, and added 'City' 40 years later. So, lets hope there are no plans !! |

so nothing to celebrate or market? until 2006..... we could still do the domestic cup double, and a top 8 finish, double over Vile and chelsea, european place, and community shield ! |

If that happened Bruce would be given the City of Birmingham to do with as he wishes. The Bull Ring would have to be an Anne Summers dept store. When Bruce died he would be stuffed and put on the town Hall roof. (on the other hand that could happen if he doesn't win anything) A statue of DS on St Andrews and Elmdon would be GOLD Airport. Praps I'll be able to park my roller free.! |

I seem to remember the gypsie's curse would last 100 years. If so, 2007 will be our year. Barry Fry pi**ed in each corner of the pitch and it has brought some relief from the curse but we seem to stop just short every time we're within touching distance of anything. While you make your own luck and have to take your chances, I can't wait till the curse has lifted. |

Heard from a viler that small heath alliance and aston Vile had an agreement not to take the citys name back in the old days. Blues obviously ignored this agreement.Does anyone else know more about this. |

It's true, I've seen the paperwork...., but I'm told they've got the option of extending the contract for another couple of decades. |

Yes,it's true but the council encouraged Small Heath to take the city's name when St Andrews was proposed as a stadium.....so they did.... sc**w the Vile Both Vile and Blues started life as cricket clubs....Blues were started by the Holy Trinity Cricket Club Both clubs were also invited to enter a 'joint' team in the old Inter Cities Fairs cup when it was intoduced in the mid 50's ('London' comprised a team of players from Chelsea,Fulham,Brentford,Spurs,Arsenal and West Ham) Vile declined so BCFC went in it alone and reached the Final both in 1960 and 1961 only to lose both 2 legged games to Roma and Barcelona ....thus becoming the FIRST English club side to reach a European final....pity we didn't win either...would have gone down in folklore Tottenham hold the claim to being the 1st English side to win a Euro trophy in 1963 when they won the old European Cup Winners Cup Manchester United were the FIRST English winners of the European Cup (Now the CL)....1968.........United have won it twice (so have Notts Forest) ....Liverpool hold the record with 5 triumphs including last years epic with AC Milan.....I believe Real Madrid hold the record for most EC (CL) wins Back to Blues and they started in 1875 as Small Heath Alliance (1875-1888),became just Small Heath between 1888 and 1905 before being known as Birmingham FC in 1906 and added the 'City' in 1947-48 We have had four 'homes'... Arthur St and Muntz St in Small Heath and Ladypool Road in Sparkbrook and the current home St Andrews.......gypsies were evicted from the site of our current home and it's often rumoured when they left, a curse was put on the club for 100 years which predicted the club would NOT win anything....However we did win the League Cup in 1963 so believe what you will Another myth is that a dead horse from those days was buried under the Tilton Road goalmouth but in 1994 it was excavated when the whole pitch was relaid and the club's fortunes have actually changed since then.....Blues won the Nationwide Div Two title that year, reached the League Cup Final in 2001 and won promotion a year later to the EPL....the club's financial state has dramatically improved too in that time and in case younger fans don't remember ...Birmingham City Football Club were just minutes away from liquidation and going out of busniess completely (a la Accrington Stanley style) but a former chairman named Ken Wheldon stepped in with a rescue package .....the banks and several other creditors and lenders wanted the club closed down...it was THAT close The curse ends in 2006 (in reality it ended this year 2005 if you calculate 100 from and including 1906) here endeth the history leasson |

can anybody remember the 1975 centenary match against Celtic at St. Andrews - we won 1-0 and I think Celtic missed a penalty. loads of jocks down here. shortly before or after Rangers played a 'friendly' against Witton and the match was abandoned as Rangers fans obviously didnt like our cross city neighbours too much and there was loads of trouble...hence the old song...Celtic tried to take the kop etc etc |

Rangers played our neighbours afterwards having not learnt the lesson from Blues v Celtic when about 200 were arrested and the fighting began 2 days before the match in Small Heath and continued through the Friday and into Sat.night! That's why they weren't asked again and would you believe the reason why they never got into the English League. The match at B6 was the first when supporters were arrested using cctv and convicted on the strength of the film. |

re Partisan.. From someone present at the time.(not me) and part of the club. A football club was 'invited' to take the city name and as b6 wanted to stay named after a suburb,Blues took it on.This was to enhance the City motto 'Forward' . Re Wheldon.Blues had one telephone only and that was in Wheldon's office, not even the manager had one..Wheldon's estate still own the Damson Lane training ground(now derelict) |

Thanks Barry but I think that's more or less what I said anyway So Ken Wheldon had the club's ONLY telephone,eh??? I bet he told his Mrs to even stop calling him at the office... Going back to the 'dreaded' curse I recall Ron Saunders hung four crucifix's (is that good English??) on the old St Andrews floodlight pylons I'm sure I saw Linda Blair in the Railway End during one game...we were playing THAT bad she flipped her head around 180 degrees and faced the back of the stand....she later threw up on the bus ride home, right on to the lap of a vicar and instead of apologising to the shocked reverend......she blamed it on the Cold Meat Pies and the Bovril...... I'll get me coat |

Didn't the council make us stop using "Forward" in the 60s or 70s ? I thought that was why we created a new badge to replace the city's coat of arms on our shirts. |

Blues motto was always FORWARD ....the same as the city's but we purely went with a new badge (the famous globe and football design) for commercial reasons ...it was introduced in 1972 or 1973 I think and looked a lot more modern than the old coat of arms Many clubs change their badges or crests regularly..........Leeds used to do it a lot and just last season champions Chelsea introduced a new badge (based on their original badge) to replace the 'Lions Face' motto they had before |
