Now i am not knocking Maik as i think he is one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League.

Watching his performances in the NI England game the other night has left me thinking....

Maik looked confident, commanding, in control, he didnt flap at crosses, there was no failures in communication between him and his defence, he did pretty much everything perfect.

Compare that to the last few games for Blues, he has looked edgy, indecisive, lacks confidence and generally does not command his defence.

Could the difference be that he has confidence in the defenders that he has infront of him at NI but not at Blues?

How could he be more confident playing behind a defence he rarely plays with?
I think the answer is that he played under no pressure for NI, they were massive underdogs.

Sue, i have just edited my post as i meant to add "discuss" at the end of the post.

I am not saying this is my opinion, just merely offering a possibility for discussion to explain the huge difference in form between club and country.

Ok then, well that's still my opinion on Maik Taylor.

Perhaps the opposite applies to Stevie G...........brilliant for Liverpool, but just hasn't cut it for England?

I think Taylor is a very good keeper. The reason he collected every cross for NI is because Englands centre forwards are all midgets.

I really hate to say this as it seems im getting at the player but the difference is Kenny Cunningham.

He is a fantastic player but he seems to be going through a rough patch at the moment, im not for a second going to pretend I know why but it seems as if his head has dropped lately and that he himself is worrying about his age, which just makes everything worse. This means that our defence isnt working as a whole and is fragmented, which invites more pressure on the keeper.

Hope Kenny can recapture his form as then our defence will work as a solid unit and Maik will have more confidence in who's in front of him

You are both absolutely right on the ball St Andys and Blues Brother

I keep saying it. Centre back is where we need to strengthen now - hopefully in january. But until then why not give Tiny a decent run in the team , starting with the addicks?

Maybe KK is still feeling the effects of his rib injury. No excuses but these things can always take longer to heal than first thoughts.

Maybe when Taylor plays for NI people look at the good things he does.

However, whan he plays for us people tend to dwell on the things that don't go quite to plan.

As for Taylor's performances in the last few games, the whole team were under performing. Taylor could be playing out of his skin and he'd still look dodgy because he can't cover for 10 outfield players.

Brilliant performance for NI. Well done.

i believe he is a very good and well played goal keeper - this game will just bring him back to what form he has got and out of this phase
