Yep. I do.

There should be a salary cap.

If players earned £5k / week instead of £20k / week I can't think that many of them would say "s*d it then, I'll go and work in a factory instead".

Why should there be a salary cap?

Some people earn £15 an hour in other jobs while some earn £4.85. Should we cap their salaries too? Why not scrap the minimum wage and enforce a maximum wage. We'll make evryone pay the same rate of tax too.

Get real.

If I was a footballer I'd grab every single penny I could and a bit more. It's not a fotballer's fault that people are willing to pay them vast amounts of money.

If your bos told you he'd give you £10k a year and your m8 asked for £15k plus a company car and got it, the next man would ask for more. If he got it, you'd go back and ask again. If you were offered £25k a year, a company car a free hair do's for the Mrs would you turn it down cause the bloke who works in B+Q only get's £9500 a year? No you wouldn't.

Good luck to footballers. It's the stupid chairmen who allow the agents to grab the cash who should be vilified.

For every player that makes £1million a year there's a lot more who don't.

What about golfers, tennis players, F1 drivers, snooker players and many other sports people? In snooker they make £250k for losing a final. Why aren't people slaughtering them? They have to do very little for their money. A lot less than footballers.

While we're at it, what about pop stars? They don't even need to be able to sing anymore. With the right marketing and PR people they can make millions.

Football players only get paid so much because the return they bring to the club is equal to it.

One new player costing you 1 million a year could make you finish one place up the table and have a longer cup run.

They only get so much because there is so much money in the industry!

its justified

I am real. Salary caps work effectively in other sports.

I didn't say that it was the players fault either.

There's only so much money in the industry because ticket prices are so high....

.... pricing less wealthy fans (& their kids) out of the game....

... in order to fund the inflated salaries of millionaire footballers....

Football is a business, not a very profitable business at that. In order to run a football club properly, the board MUST make the money where they can and corporate customers bring in the most.

You only have to look back 10-15 years to see how much better the game is for it. We now have proper stands with rooves, the fans no longer get wet and stand in the rain, all stadia are fully seated with proper facilities.

Like it or not, football is much better and only surviving because of the corporate business it is now attracting.

Gate recipts alone will not be sufficient to run a club. Not even if the ground is sold out every game. 10 years ago we needed 16,000 on match days to break even.

It is not the likes of me or mr penguin who are funding football today. It is Sky TV and the corporates. It would be back to the dark old days if it were to change now.

We want to be able to see football games on TV as often as we do as long as it isn't our club's fixtures being moved about. If we're not shown regularly people moan we're not getting enough air time.

Times change, people, businesses and football move on. Long may it continue.

At the moment demand far outweighs supply for tickets so the club are selling them for as much as possible in order to make the money while it's available.

We're in The Premiership FFS not Division 3 with the Kumars in charge.

Football is surviving because of Sky, if they pulled out football would virtully skint and all the foreign stars would disapear, footballers are paid way to much, as are agents.

It pisses me off when papers quote players' wages. They don't care they're increasing risk to the players.

I know myself that a few people in Liverpool have 'took' players' wages.

i agree with mr penguin although i accept in a free market its increasingly unlikely.
for instance, i find it deeply unsavoury that rio wouldn't sign until he was guaranteed £125k BASIC per week. so every 8 weeks he makes £1m. how much money do these multi millionaires need, when their lower league colleagues (same union) are scratching about for less than £200 per week and could make more in a factory?
my reasons for a wage cap would be so as to allow more money to flow to lower league teams/players to make the WHOLE game more robust - surely everyone would benefit from that? that way you'd attract more english/british kids into the game which can only be for the benefit of our game in the long run?
if top players like rio were "capped" at, say, £500k per season they'd still be ridiculously rich AND the extra cash could also go to providing pensions/careers after footy for ALL the game's pros, instead of the retired or injured players having to claim from the country....just rambling now, but you get my drift
