so allardyce would jump at the chance to come here, but refused the chance to go to newcastle last season? you're having a bubble drnick, sam's going nowhere except england. as for blaming sb and lack of "tactics", lets hear what our tacticians on this site would have done differently against a very good team like charlton with a 100% record this season, including 3 away wins already? they won 3-0 at boro and it could have been 10, the same boro that beat @rse 2-1 today....get things in perspective, we aint that bad, and we aint that far from playing really well. if we reproduce our 2nd half form we'll beat most teams we play........ <_< |

newcastle only wanted SB sam was after thought. if our second half was as good as you say how come we did'nt score? proccy me old mate it's not just this game today it's the past 2 seasons since bowen had probs with SB it apears to me that our tacktics and motivation have gone. in our second sason we relied on the force for goals but the team worked together right upto the point with bowen falling out with SB. we have some good players but dont work together as a team anymore. i can understand that you wont see it through your blue tinted specs but you must take a look at what is going on. what i want to see is us going back to being a hard team to beat. SB can do this but he does need help with his taktics. it's not just me who sees it it's the majority. |

Now everyone is entitled to their opinion but some of you seemed to be at a different match to me. There were lots of positives in today's game. We have been getting better at each match as Butt & Jarosic are becoming fitter. They both had a very good game today and are quality players that know how to play the game. Pennant is a is playing well and Gray for the first time defended as well as he attacked. This must have resulted from coaching. DJ had a good game. Think about how much stick he was getting not so long ago. Forsell and Pandiani are looking sharper as their fitness returns. Unfortunately they are finishers not makers of chances pobably because they lack a little pace and are too small for high balls. However they are now getting shots off and sooner or later some team is going to get hammered by us. The problem as I see it is that we do not have a replacement for Heskey if he cannot play. We need another target man come January. Izzet is clearly on the mend. Melchiot has not looked his self this season. I heard Bruce say he had a knee injury today. Certainly the defence settled with DJ at right back and right sided attacking improved. Looking at the above you can see we have five players returning from lay-offs and today we lost Heskey and Mario to injury. We have Dunn to come back. Some will now say well, what about the tactics. Well you can only play as well as the other team lets you. Charlton are are good side currently at the top of their form. They currently sit at second in the Premiership Table. We are not that far away. Yes Maik Taylor did hoof high balls away as did on occasion other defenders but sometimes that is what is required especially when dealing with a waterlogged pitch and a team defending in numbers. Anyone criticising the Charlton goalkeeper and defenders for doing the same thing? We gave Charlton a really good scare. Did you see how agitated Curbishly was on the touchline. He said after the game they defended with their lives. In the second half it was good to hear the fans behind the team. My glass is decided half full. I say no more. KRO |

I wondered if there'd been some coaching, after DJ's movement at WBA. Good post anyway, informative. |

drnick me old mate (nice to talk to you again, by the way) if bowen is so feckin good how come blackburn have been so poor? if he's coach of the year, why were wales so crap? its not bowen we miss, its a bit of cohesion, a full fit squad and our share of the rub of the green......... ;) |

Does anyone know when SB went on the mandatory FA coaching course ? I may be way off but it seems to me that things got worse after that. |

For me the decline in our game was when Bowen departed. Black did really well with Coventry, but he wasn't in charge of training. Personally, I think this saya it all. :( |

Not unless we score goals we won't :o we had 13 shot second half today and didn't really test the keeper first half when we was she hite, we managed to make the keeper save twice, i think some of it is down to confidence, but a lot of times we luck clueless going forward and off the ball movement is shite, even through optimistic glasses B) |

Have to agree with the movement off the ball issue. However, today Charlton worked very hard to close down the space and stiffle our play. They did very well and when we've done it to other teams have hailed SB as a master tactician. It was easy to see today what Sb and the team are trying to do. It'll click soon. |

Oh No! Not you two back together again.... Get a room for goodness sake!
proccy.... Agree with you totally and also on your comments earlier about Allardyce.... But you also asked what our tacticians would do differently so here I go: We don't do the simple basic stuff.... Maik to play the ball out rather than kick it out (in this way we retain 100% possession rather than give the opposition a 50/50 chance of getting it back).... Have options at throw ins ~ How many players want the ball when we have throw ins? They seem to be avoiding it rather than wanting it! What does that tell you? To me it says that once they get it they don't know what to do with it and that comes from fear and uncertainty! That's the Coach's job to sort that out.... Pennant takes all our corners..... So the opposition coach says to his players: "When Blues get a corner on the left it will be an inswinger and defend like this; on the right an outswinger and defend like this!" No surprises there then! Also did anyone else notice just how much space there was between Pennant and the area every time he took a corner? We should have been drawing them out and taking short ones.... Free kicks? Same comments.... Did anyone see Charlton troubled by any set ball situation? So many times yesterday we had two wingers on the same side of the pitch.... So midfield get the ball and have only one option.... And then do they pass to Gray or Pennant? So add in indecision as well! In order to unsettle the opposition you have to have options all the time and keep them guessing.... One final well worn record.... There isn't a successful Club anywhere where the Assistant Manager has managed a Team before and failed.... Black is a Manager not an Assistant.... Black has his own ideas of how a Team and a Club should be run.... If that doesn't create diversity and splits within the camp then nothing will! |

i look at bowen being the motivator of the team it does seem a coincidence that we started to go down hill when he fell out with SB. IMO |
