How do I expect him to come and claim it?

Well, what a goalkeeper is allowed to do is MOVE off his line. You may have noticed that Keepers are allowed to wear gloves. This is because they can use their hands.

Adding all these things up:

Taylor should have come off his line, challenged Bent and either punched the ball or caught it. If he couldn't have got to the ball then the fact that he made a challenge may have put off Bent.

I really do dispair at most people on here.

To do what you want him to do, Taylor would have had to collect the ball almost outside of his box. as when the ball was crossed Bent was outside the box. Also ask yourself this why was Clapham left marking Bent where was Cunningham and Upson.

I am 23 Mo.

I am football coach to a school in Solihull where in 5 years I have taken my appointed teams to 1 cup final and 5 semi finals.

I am now working towards getting my badge in Goalkeeper coaching which is why my views on Taylor are so strong.

lol

omg.......

Perhaps it is because I have had Keeper training from the age of about 6 that I can see all his bad points and no one else can.....

Serious question Luke - how old are you?

Mo
x

Personally, I think Luke is old enough to have summarised Maik Taylor's weaknesses perfectly.

Is this is a genuine question or are you trying to have a poke?

Willie,

Bent headed the ball past Taylor from about 8 yards out!!!!!!

Taylor has GOT to be commanding his 6 yard box and out as far as his Penalty Spot.

Outside the AREA? My God, what game were you watching??

Someone asked me how I saw the Boro goals, well the 3rd, Quedrues Taylor should have claimed. The ball was floated into the box in front of Taylor and he made NO challenge for it. Again, superglued on his line. He allowed Quedrue time to let the ball come and drop over his left shoulder and volley home. Where was Taylors challenge?

Against WBA, when Jonty made a hash of the clearence and sent it looping towards his own goal, Taylor should have been out to the edge of his 6 yard box and challenging Horse....... But no, Geoff let it come down to volley home.

The defence were also to blame but that is NO EXCUSE for no challenge off Maik.

It is school boy stuff and I wouldn't allow my 14 Year old Keeper to get away with stuff like that!

you know before you said all that i thought Maik has been superb, but i can see where your coming from esecially about the DJ and Horse.... geoff had to wait for the ball to come down, ample time for Taylor to get at least a punch to the ball.

Well you certainly weren't at St Andrews'.

The Ball was crossed in from their left and was met by the head of Bent from 8 yards out under a challenge from Clapham (if I remember).

Now, where you get Taylor coming right out to outside the area if he wanted to collect it is beyond me.

Any decent Keeper would see the cross coming in, watch the the flight, come out and make an ariel challenge for it in and around his 6 yard box to Penalty Spot. Anything beyond that is the job of the Defenders.

I was taught stuff like that at Junior School!

where do you sit luke? i ask because i understand what you say, but where i sit i could see taylor had no chance of getting it, it was way over his head straight onto bents noggin. claps was close to him, but the cross was so perfect he never even got off the ground!! i aint maiks biggest fan, but i dont put that one down to him

Now Luke read what i have written, where was Bent when the ball was crossed from the left. he was not standing still was he. No he was on the edge of the box if not just outside it. now where when al this was going on were Upson and Cunningham. why was Clapham isolated and left to out jump Bent??

I know that Benty had to run and jump to get onto the cross but that is irrelavent.

Where did the cross drop and was met by Bentys head? 8 yards out. That is the area that Maik HAS to be commanding.

Yes I understand what you are saying about Upson and KC but Maik STILL has to be coming and trying to claim crosses between his line and the Penalty Spot.

First rules when you are taught to be a keeper. It is basic stuff.
