[maybe some of the language in this post has led some in the direction they are going towards your views??

it does seem you are implying that WASPS are paying all the taxes

it could read like you are saying that Muslims have no right to oppose a building due to the fact they obviously don't pay taxes or aren't born here

If you are a local resident to the area you will have been contacted about the meeting but like the majority of people will have just chucked the leaflet in the bin as council rubbish... the meeting wouldn't have been called oppostion to stadium but would have been a council meeting with that on the agenda??

I was making a point that the majority of taxes are paid by the working and middle class white and black, this is not racist, just a number fact!

30% of some areas of bham are muslim, but overall it is around 3-4%.

it was not racist, just illustrating the democratic mis match of how voices will be listened to.

I did not suggest the muslim community had no voice on buildings, it is just that as someone else stated, 26000 blues fans petition the council, NO REACTION, a few muslims question the morallity and we have council statements and meeetings.

I have a property in Kings Heath and had no notice, and I live in Gloucester, my parents live in wythall, i was raised in Kings Heath.

I pay council tax in the city for a flat.

I wondered how long the 'Do Gooders, you are all racist' would take to start posting....I am amazed it has taken 2 pages though!!!

The only racism in Birmingham is them (Muslims) telling us (Non Muslims) how we should live.

This is why Muslims and Non Muslims will never know about each others faiths because nearly everything we do in the Western world is seen as going against there religion and this is why I said in my first post, why move to, or choose to live in a Non Muslim country and dictate what we can and can't do as it goes against there beliefs.

All but one post can see what is happening in this City.

THIS IS NOT RACISM, IT IS POLITICAL CORRECTNESS GONE MAD.

well u stated what i was trying say, thanks...

i agree 100%...

but u will envoke critics for stating "them" and "us" in such a general way.... hard hats on....

U are so right to say that it is a clash of culture, and as mr peart once stated, "why move around the world if eden was so near..."

if i went to live in a foreign nation i would respect their culture and try to blend in, and adapt my ways. that is how it should be, the UK should not bend over backwards and change our ways to accomodate them (the muslims), you will find that the middle ground of British opinion is shifting to this way of seeing things, we have been too tolerant for our own good, and for theirs, for they have not adapted to life here, and now expect things to change for them.

and now we are discussing gambling casino in 2005, in the heart of britain...

There is no them and us. Asian bluenoses do exist, the stadium is also for cricket and many asians love cricket. We need asian bluenoses to step forward and be pro-stadium/casino. That'll knock the stuffing out of the PC brigade!

Actually Sam I actually found your posts skirting very close to being out and out racist. You did imply that the Muslim community in Birmingham shouldn't have a voice (whether intentionally or otherwise) and pretty much took an us and them attitude. making gross generalisations about them not liking your way of life etc.

I have a bit of bad news for you (as a black catholic, not that thats particularly relevant to this discussion) based on previous revelations you have made on this site, and the fact that you stated you were a catholic I think you will find that the Pope would take exception to you and your involvement in his religion. Fortunately most of us form our own opinions rather than blindly following doctrine without question. Otherwise I would have a problem with you on religious grounds (which I don't) and if you wish to argue that this is a CofE country then half of their clergy would have the same position as the catholic church on this. This isn't a personal attack I just wanted to point out how easy it is to condemn the muslim religion because you disagree with its views when our own religion isn't exactly blameless for intolerance either.

Personally I have over the years made a number of friends from virtually all religions and some from different sexual orientations and contrary to the rants in your posts they do not have a problem with our way of life and want to change it. I recall at the time shops were proposing Sunday opening the Church was up in arms. As this went against the religion of our country, yet shops still open on Sunday. Interestingly before that happened people were glad of the Asian owned cornershops that opened when every where else was closed.

You can't have it both ways you either accept that with diversity will come different views and religious beliefs and take the benefits of this as well as the drawbacks or you have no diversity and a monocolture where shops still closed half day wednesday and at 5pm every evening, don't open Sundays and the idea of interesting cuisine is bangers and mash.

Whilst I agree in many ways that PC has gone too far (and I think you will find that many people from ethnic minority backgrounds find this as annoying as you do). I will always take exception to thinly disguised racism.

It makes me angry that they will have a meeting with a handfull of Muslims, yet they won't listen to over 10,000 petitions that were sent in or the 26,000 fans who attend the ground most weeks.

I feel we now live in a country that would rather bow down to the people who want to change the way we all live than listen to the people who are trying to make Birmingham better.

My Mom and Dad live in Small Heath with my 6 year old brother who is friends with many of the Asian kids of his age. One of the young Asian lads he plays with was told he can't play with my brother anymore becuase his teacher at his Muslim school had told them that he shouldn't play with white children anymore.

I told my Mom to call the police about this but she was worried that it may come on her. But if this is one small child in one small Muslim school who is being taught like this, only Allah knows what the other schools are teaching the young kids who go there.

I know this does not apply to all Muslim's and I dont want this to start sounding like a racist rant, but with all you hear and see living in these parts of Birmingham, it is no wonder we feel hard done by.

You just need to look at all the Festivals we have in Birmingham yet a St Georges day parade is ruled out as it may cause racial tension...The only thing that is causing racial tension it not being able to celebrate being English in England.

What a loud of crap....im a muslim and i have a lot of white friends. This teacher is chatting crap. Surely the teacher should be reported. As a muslim I am not allowed to gamble so i dont do the lottery or visit casinos, im not allowed to drink so i dont go to pubs for a pint (but soft drinks are fine).

I imagine that the muslims against the Casino are a very small minority. A regeneration plan like the casino is great for a community like Small Heath, Alum Rock etc as it would generate 100's of jobs for the high propertion of unemployed for those living in the catchment areas.

I as a muslim totally support the casino and super stadium.

You what!!!!???

Us and them would suggest something along the lines of racism.
I pay my tax's, have a season ticket at blues and am a muslim. I find your comments completly and utterly disgraceful.

Majority of tax's will be paid by white people seeing as the majoiry of bham's population is made up of white people.

I cannot believe how the conversation re: opposition to the stadium/casino by muslims has allowed people to express their racist feelings towards muslims. Bet you'll still go and have a curry after a night out on the w/end. Shame on you.

There have been views by a cross section of society on this thread, perhaps it would be wise to follow djmusic & e-mail our councillors & post the replies on a seperate thread & lock this thread before it turns into another heated slanging match :(
