Good luck to Stan and all the Aussie team for the two leg world cup play off against Uruguay. The dirty tricks the South Americans have used are starting to backfire and we are certainly a real chance this time. We'll all be supporting the boys on Sunday morning then again on Wednesday night. And wouldn't it be wonderful if Stan can score the winning goal, then return to Brum to score the winner v Bolton on Monday week. |

Go Australia! I think they'll do it as they have a very talented team and once they make it to Germany, they could go far. All the best to Stan and the lads. Also, I hope Trinidad and Tobago make it to Germany too. All the best to Stern John. |

Part of me would obviously love to see Stan there but the very idea of the Aussies at the World Cup does my head in. Nice people when you're not talking to 'em about sport. Get onto the subject and they turn into Americans. |

I'd love to see the Aussies in the World cup finals. They've got a raw deal imo having to play off against a South American team. It would be great to see Stan in Germany. Probably our only representative ?! |

In sport I've always had more of a soft spot for New Zealand, the Aussies are always mouthing off about the British and especially the English, and then I look at their flag  you just have to laugh at some countries. |

The sporting rivalry between England & the Aussies is ace : typified by the Ashes. To be honest I've always found the Aussies to be really good sports - mouthy, of course, and ultra-competitive, but respectful of ability from wherever it comes & with a real zest for sport. I like them. |

Fair effort by the Aussies today, tough in Montivideao. It's now up to the boys to win in Sydney on Wednesday night. Stan didn't get any game time today. Viduka was best afield - Harry Kewell was absolutely terrible. |

No. he wasnt even in their squad. The Aussies played well and the goal came from a free kick which should never have been give. 50-50 challenge, both players fell over, free kick awarded to Uruguay. |

If Pandiani had been selected, Bluenoses would've been moaning about our players travelling half way around the world. If he doesn't get selected, 'Noses moan that he's not good enough... |

Kewell has lost the plot totally. It's too many injuries and that stupid girly hair he has. I hope the Aussies win the second leg and go to Germany, as they have a capiable team. |

And you take that seriously? The Aussie have no problems with the English - I know, I'm married to one. They just love beating England at sport - just as we love beating them. And what about the flag? The Aussies reckon you have to feel sorry for the poor old Poms. They don't even have their own flag. They had to steal the corner off ours. |

It's a bit of tangent, but much as I like the Aussies I've never really admired their approach to sport. The typical view which is usually expressed in the media, seems to be : Poms - fair play, good losers, lack the killer instinct... Aussies - winners, play hard, hate losing... I think that the Aussie obsession with winning at sport is a result of insecurity. Australia is a first-world "western" country, but too small to be really important (economically, culturally, miltarily or politically) and too remote to belong anywhere. Aussies rely on sport to make their mark on the world; compensating for inadequacies elsewhere. That's why winning is so important. It goes to the heart of their sense of identity and defines their place in the world. The English, in contrast, can afford to take a more relaxed approach to sport. It plays a part in our national life, but it isn't the be all and end all. Our place in the world is not at all dependent on being good at sports, so we can see it for what it is :- fun, entertainment, leisure. We can be good losers, because we know that (in the great scheme of things) it really doesn't matter that much. Just a theory. Not supposed to be Aussie-bashing. I just get fed up of hearing about how we can learn from the Aussie sporting mentality. |

Kick off is 7:30pm EST, which is 8:30am in Brum. A small TV station (SBS) has the rights so I can't imagine it'll be shown live in Brum. Anyone in Melbourne, we are watching it at the South Melbourne FC from 6pm. Come along and hopefully see the green and gold prevail. |
