How on earth did Bruce get us promoted with Trev's team?

He got rid of all of the dead wood. and brought in players such as Devs, Stern, Vickers etc. who all helped us up. He was pivotol in getting s promoted with his OWN team!

Oh give us a break matey

The G Man,Kenna,O Connor,Purse,Hughes,Lazza,Magic Johnson,Mccarthy,Sonner,Gill,Holdsworth all played their part in our promotion year and they were ALL Trevor Francis imports
Benno was a Barry Fry signing
And AJ had come through the youth ranks

There's no way it was SB's side although at this point in time, only Stanley remains from the TF era

KRO

so if it was tf's team what you say proves sb is the better manager. tf couldnt get us to play off final, let alone the prem with these players, yet sb did it first go.....
perhaps some of the sb doubters should consider this when they say bring tf back...crazy idea imo..... ;)

Yes,proccy I agree.....I was merely pointing out to charliedontsurf that the bulk of the 2002 promotion squad were Trev Francis signings

If you read my earlier post a bit further up the page...you will see I am pro Bruce (for the time being anyway)

Bottom line is the only managers and coaches that are ever really remembered are the the ones that are WINNERS (Sir Alf with England,Cloughie,Shankly,Revie,Busby,Stein,Graham,Dalgleish,Paisley,Ferguson,Wenger, etc etc) .....Sam Allardyce and Alan Curbishley are considered the top two in England right now but remember neither have won any trophies with their respective clubs yet although Sam came close (Carling in 2004)

Karren Brady described SB as a 'Winner' when he first got the job....now it's up to Steve to deliver the silverware and the European qualifications.......Nuff said

dont get me wrong, partisan - i dont think sb is anything special as a manger yet and he has a lot to prove to a lot of people, not least us lot. but you cant deny that throughout his career he's been a winner and a fighter with great desire to stretch his talent as far as it would go. what he seems to need is some method to get our players to do the same, but i suspect todays players just have it too easy too soon with too much dosh!! not just our players, all prem players... at least sb seems to have the respect and cameraderie you need to gel as a unit - most of the players didnt get on with tf from what i understand, and that led to its own problems.
the other point is, if he leaves in jan who is available who'd be prepared to come here, who we'd want? i really dont see any viable alternative right now given our position..

Well I sure as hell DON'T want Alain Perrin,Graeme Souness or David O Dreary in the St Andrews hot-seat

Brucey has a job for the rest of season at least but if we were to continue struggling through this month and Sullivan decides he's had enough then George Burley or Alan Curbishley would be my only choices

Also,I have often wondered if Kenny Dalgleish would ever come out of retirement....could be worth an outside bet if you're a betting man and a councillor in Saltley

Just a thought......hope the Blue Boys can get us back on winning tracks starting on Monday v 'Alf Garnett's Cockneys in Villa Shirts'

Keep right on

Most of those players you listed were frozen out by their clubs and needed a second chance. Pennant is another big example. Offering big money to the waifs and strays of football isn't great management.

Never forget he only got promotion with someone else's team......

This isn't a defend Bruce post, but, he did turn ' someone elses team' around from below midtable to playoffs. With a few, additions. Namely, DJ, Stern John and Devlin. Through Carter into the mix, and played Bryan Hughes in the middle. So thats almost half the team different from his predocessor.

Yes some of ours players were frozen out by other teams, but they were top 6 teams, so that ain't bad. Hardly like they are bad players.

If your going to criticise Bruce4, pick his tactics, picking players out of position.

Just get the facts straight!

your having a laugh...Bruce done more than Trevor, Get a grip!! Bruce ain't fit enough to lick Trevors Boots.

PLEASE!

As a player yes Trev was better, no question. BUT as a manager how far did we really get? A couple of play-offs and a cup final and suddenly that makes him what? Alex Fergusson? Why don't you try and remember why he was sacked? If you're unable I'll give you a couple of clues - MAN CITY, 12th in Div 1, and one great big penalty fiasco that made us look stupid. He was good at the time but his time came to an end. If we want a better menager we have to get someone new. We could get Perrin he's good...ONLY JOKING!

From where I was sitting at the Stadium of Light, that was a woefull and clueless performance. There is only one way to stop us sliding back into our traditional yo-yo club role - and that is to wake up and realise that Bruce, isn't a top manager.

Go! In the name of Ken Wheldon go, and get a decent manager in to do the job properly.

LIKE TREVOR

We have been very poor but I would give the guy a chance. We are in the last 8 of the carling cup and if we can win our next 2 home games we will be on the way out of the mire.

Come on Mr P, I've been banging this particular drum for over 2 years now. You even replied to my "mistake to sack trev?" thread all those years ago. It may not be new, but it needs to be said. Bruce isn't up to the job.

Eh?

You made a "Mistake to sack trev?" thread?

Who got us in the prem? Who's kept us there?

Who failed to get us there?
