Will you be on the coach, Dave ?.. Ground has a 6000 capacity, and looks like tickets will be up to appx £15 in the Sparkworld Stand - the newest stand at Plainmoor. Couldn't find away capacity details, but I'd guess 1000ish... C. KRO. |

Around 1,100 away supporters can be accommodated in the Sparkworld Away Stand, at one end of the ground. The club also makes 200 seats available to away supporters in the covered Main Stand. Additionally there is a small terraced area that can be made available adjacent to the Main Stand, but this area is open to the elements. The Sparkworld Away terrace is covered and the acoustics are good, meaning that relatively few away supporters can still really make some noise from this area. When I went the weather for autumn was superb, so I thoroughly enjoyed the visit. Torquay is a good place to go for a night out, so I would recommend staying down there and making a weekend of it From the footballgroundguide. |

Didn't we lose 1-0 at Torquay back around the 1992 season under Terry Cooper? (FA Cup 1st or 2nd Round) I remember we had John Gayle playing for us...and it was live on SKY also. |

Nah,that was Reading ....our 1st live appearance on Sky Sports I think Someone said we lost 3-0 (think it was 1991) in another Cup tie And we did beat them on our way to Wembley back in 1956....mind you,we also beat ARSENAL away that year too so don't put too much faith in omens |

Is their ground still in the Babbacombe area of Torquay ??? I recall an enormous HILL you have to climb from Torquay town centre....better jump on a bus unless you're a mountain climber or just super fit |

Looking forward to this game. Its always nice to get a lower league side in the first few rounds - it gives some youngsters a chance to have a game. Lets hope its not another Blackpool though <_< |

Just to expand a bit on what some have already weitten ! It was Terry Coopers team that last played at Torquay in the FA Cup. We lost three nil, and as for somebody saying nice pies, my abiding memory is starting to queue for a hot dog at nil nil, and it being three nil by the time i got served ! The hot dog was poor as well ! Its fair to say that Torquay was not equipped for the hoard of Bluenoses descending upon it ! Theres a couple of boozers that are litterally on the corner of the ground, by 2.15pm on that day the barman was selling the last bottles of Hooch at about a fiver a throw, the taps had been empty for a good hour ! Theres nothing quite like the sight of seeing the local pub heaving with blue and white and flags hanging in the window ! Add to that a couple of the tastier female bluenoses dancing on a table top to the baying crowd singing ' zuluetta , Joh Pe zuluetta ' ( or whatever the words to that french song are ! LOL ) , and you get a bit of a picture of a typical blues away day with terry coopers team ! One other thing of note from that game, there right backs performance against us inspired us to buy him, a certain Mr Paul Holmes ! |

we've only ever played Torquay officially 4 times, strangely 3 times in one season in which we won the league encounters but somehow managed to lose 3-0 14 days after beating them at home by the same scoreline... magic of the cup eh?? 1991/1992.....Tue 24 Mar Torquay Utd. 1 - 2 Birmingham C. Third Division .....................Sat 16 Nov Torquay Utd. 3 - 0 Birmingham C. F.A. Cup .....................Sat 02 Nov Birmingham C. 3 - 0 Torquay Utd. Third Division 1955/1956 Sat 07 Jan Torquay Utd. 1 - 7 Birmingham C. F.A. Cup interesting to note but if the game is played on Saturday 7th Jan, it'll be exactly 50 years since we first played them. |

Hi Blues Fans! Just a quick hello from the south coast. Well, we're well chuffed at getting the Blues in the FA Cup. Okay, so we could've done with the money from a game at your ground, but what the heck! :o) As a few of you have said, getting to the ground from the train station is a bit of a bind but a pleasant walk along the prom followed by a wander up through the main shopping street ain't too hard. I must admit that Plainmoor is situated about 1,000 ft up on top of a hill above the town but, as some have already pointed out, there are quite a few pubs around the ground to wet your whistle once your up. I trust our catering has improved since you were last here, though don't hold your breath on that one. Mind, there's a string of shops nearby that'll see you right. We wonder whether you'll be given our home ''pop(ular) side' (we don't have a home end as such as one end is a seated family stand and the other is normally for away supporters). This is what happened last time we met and, at least, it gives you the chance to get a few more fans in - maybe up to 2,000 or so?? Of course there'll be some seats in the grandstand as well but, for the majority of you, it'll be back to the old days of terracing! So, here's looking forward to the game. Both are teams need a half decent Christmas/New year before then though. As some of you have remarked, what we lack for in skill we might make up for in determination. Who knows? Regards TorquayFan |

If we played them in the Cup in November, it must have been the second round, not the Third. So the last time we played Torquay in the THIRD round was 1955/56. The omen still stands!!!! :D **thumbup |

Proccy A replay, now that'd be something, eh?! Here's hoping. BTW, the word is that a special mention will be made on the day for Robin Stubbs who played for both our teams in the 60s. I reckon he'll get introduced on the pitch etc. He's considered one of, if not THE, best forwards we ever had. I just about remember him. TorquayFan |

Robin Stubbs: Born in Quinton 22 April 1941 Blues June 56-Aug 63 (Amateur 56-58) - 70 Apps, 20 Goals. For Torquay, 122 goals in 238 apps. Perhaps also "famous" (as in made the national press) when his then wife (Anthea Redfern) left him to marry one Bruce "The Mighty Atom" Forsyth. Is he still working as a Salesman down there ?? Looking forward to the trip - just hope it's a Saturday game. C. KRO.. |

Hirsty & Proccy In all competitions 'Stubbsy' scored 133 goals in 263 games for us. That's slightly better than 1 every 2 games. He came to us from you in 1963. We have him in our centenary book as having come from Warley (?). I agree, scoring goals in the basement leagues isn't quite the same as in the old First Division or modern Premier League, but it ain't a bad record nonetheless. These days, we'd be lucky to hang on to him for more than a season or two! TorquayFan |
