I like Black but Bowen leaving has been the single biggest moment for us since we got in the prem. |

i decided long ago, sadly the welsh pair, savage and bowen, had more impact on the team than we realised. sad to admit we could do with them both back! even wales are playing worse without them. |

Whats to decide. 1 man doesn`t make a team and a lot of people who know more about football than me rates Black. Bruce let Bowen leave for some reason but I think it`s not right to try and blame 1 man. Would Bowen have made a difference with the current squad? Nobody knows. If Bellamy and Bowyer had signed would things have been different? 1 thing is that Melchiot and Izzet have just returned from injuries and the first few games back are the most important. But the Bowen vs Black arguement shouldn`t exist it should be about how the backroom staff perform as a team. |

What about Brian Kidd, as assistant manager instead of Black...Hes said that he wants to get back into coaching in some way or another? After what he did at manure with sir alex he might help us and hopefully change the way we play, instead of the hoofball all the time we seem to play towards heskey. |

People the rot was begining before Bowen left. This situation to me personally has little to do with the number 2, and everything to do with the transition we've been trying to make. We did fairly well in our fist couple of seasons purely because we were difficult to beat. And with any other number two we still would have been difficult to beat, because it was the players we had that were making us difficult to beat. Guess what happens when you try and trade those never say die, hardworking commited players for players of more quality. You've guessed it you're not as difficult to beat, the whole philosophy has changed and if Bowen was still here now it would be him that everyone was calling for the head off. Now as to why it seems he's doing the biz at blackburn. Well guess what type of players Blackburn have..yes Savage is one of them. Hard working commited ones that make them difficult to beat. |

i agree and have been saying this for ages, whilst continually being derided by the "sb out" supporters. my point echos yours atl, but also add that blackburn have not exactly set the league alight have they? they were lucky in some ways to avoid relegation last year. i dont doubt bowen is a good coach, i just doubt it was him who was responsible for all good things, and sb responsible for all bad. as others have pointed out (penguin?) we started to slip some time before bowen left, but nothing about our poor run is being laid at his door is it? ;) maybe he set the rot, who knows? |

The rot did start to set in before Bowen left, HOWEVER it almost precisely coincides with the time that the spat occurred and Bruce from then on effectively froze Bowen out of anything to do with the first team. Bowen may have still been at the club, but he was no longer influentual. He was then destined to leave the club. Someone should have seen what was happening and settled the dispute, which was, after all, simply a clash of egos. The reason the situation has everything to do with the number two is that Bowen was the tactical brains behind Bruce's leadership. We have since seen the result of Bruce's continued tactical ineptitude. Yes, the players are the ones on the pitch making it happen. But surely you realise they play to a gameplan that is designed to capiitalise on their strengths and minimise their weaknesses. That is why teams with average players can blend to become a strong unit. we have better players now than at any time during our history, but noone at the club has a clue how to capitalise on their skills. If they did, we wouldn't be in this mess that we are right now. It's a shambles because Bruce's tactics are shambolic. Do Real Madrid, or Barcelona or Brazil or Chelsea or Arsenal or....almost any successful team you can remember attribute their success to having 'never say die, hardworking commited players', or do they possess players of unique skills and quality and play to their strengths? Yes, you can even have limited success with a team of good, honest, workhorses, but you still have to play to their strengths too. That, my friend, is tactics. Bowen had it. Clearly Bruce/Black dont. |

have to admit you may have a point ! there are some players that play with pride and passion, I do think every player tries but at the moment everyones confidence is low and few wins under us and we will be fine |

Mr Bluediver remember that your philosophy (or game plan) is greatly compromised if your players are constantly injured or carrying injuries. I do agree that Brucies tactics aren't the best (for example, I dunno if i can forgive him for his crazy team selection at home to boro ) but I remember him doing dumb stuff like playing clemence left wing, while Bowen was still here. Thats because its Brucie with the ultimate say because it is his Job. I still stand to the opinion that our successes and failures have not been about Bowen or Black, but about the players we have had available at any given moment, and also the difficulties when you're in a transitional period (its basically make or break). Yes you could say that well its Brucies fault, he brought and sold players, but can we honestly say that we wouldn't be upset if we were still realying on the hard work of Sav, Clem and the Horse. No WE wanted the better players, and Bruce got them. Anyway, I personally feel a clean sweep is in order |
