Taken from today's Mirror BLUES TO DROP THE BIG FLOPS By Martin Rogers STEVE BRUCE is set to axe Jermaine Pennant and Julian Gray from his starting line-up after Birmingham owner David Sullivan expressed his fury at the team's lack of passion. Sullivan held talks with Bruce following Monday night's dismal defeat to West Ham and was assured by the manager that players who did not show enough commitment would be cast aside. Bruce was dismayed with the performances of potential match-winners Gray and Pennant. They are set to be replaced for Saturday's home clash against Fulham with Stan Lazaridis and Damien Johnson. Sullivan said: "Those who did not show passion against West Ham will not be picked. "We know we have had no luck with injuries, yet you have to make do the best you can. And we know that we are not taking our chances. "But there were other things on Monday that were alarming and they will be addressed. I could say a lot more but I won't." Sullivan has been horrified by the Blues' woeful home form which has seen them gather just a single point from seven league games at St Andrews this season. That run has put Birmingham in deep relegation danger. Sullivan added: "Our home form is appalling, it is beyond our worst fears. It has been like a morgue at St Andrews and I can understand why." |

So where did the Mirror make up the names of these flops from then? The Evening mail article yesterday didn't name names. |

He was dropped to the bench at Sunderland, and when he came on he played what (in my opinion) was his best of the season. As if the kick up the bum had worked. But that was for half an hour, or whatever it was. He's always this season managed a decent half hour in a game, pity he doesn't do a whole decent game like he did last season. |

Pennant didnt have a bad game and Gray was clearly injured and shouldnt have been playing in the game. I wonder what the team will be then? Do we have 11 players who are willing to sweat blood for this club? I can think of about 5/6 off the top of my head. |

I wondered whether Pennant was still carrying an injury, as he seemed to take such a long time to recover each time after making a run. Bloke next to me reckoned he looked like he'd had a heavy weekend. |

If Pennant is dropped that will almost certainly mean DJ at right wing and Tebily at right back. :( |

Yes, Mario sustained bruising to his hand, unfortunately its the hand that he wants to use to sign a nice big fat contract at another club in January - so he isn't prepared to risk it ;) :P |

The Simptons are: Bart, Marg, Homer, Lisa and Maggie.... And if Brucie played Gray on the right and Pennant on the left would the newspaper heading then read: "Flip Flops"?? |

sorry to disagree but Pennant did absolutely nothing on Monday night, i was at the game and have watched the game three times since on DVD, like i do all Blues games. Pennant runs into dead ends most of the time..his turn of speed may excite most fans but he doesn't get me excited...infact i'll go even further and say Jesper Gronkjear had just as much impact as Jermaine pennant. That said i find that tactics is the problem... there are very few premiership teams that use out and out wingers, even Manchester united only use Ronaldo in certain wide positions and usually swap him over playing a free role. even Chelsea use Duff sparingly...and cole also fills the wide berth. Man Utd also use the full back overlaping... Neville being the obvious scenario, when was the last time you saw Melchiot as far forward as Gary Neville gets himself?? as for Julian Gray... i ain't even gonna waste my time typing something. |

There's criticism and there's just being silly!!! It is about time these flops were dropped though. Taylor, who in my opinion has been our biggest flop this season was dropped and Vaesen has done very well. We all know Taylor CAN do it, but he wasn't at the time, a change was needed and the fact that Vaesen also knows taylor can do it is keeping him on his toes. The same is needed for Pennant and Gray, especially Pennant. As Taylor proved and unfortunately, as i think Brucie is proving, anyone who thinks their position is secure no matter what, will not perform to their potential. It is no surprise that Kilkenny comes in and is our best player, because he knows that Brucie hates playing youth players, i dont think Rooney would have ever got in our team tbh!! |

Fair play to you. It was just the thought of watching Monday's game another 3 times that freaked me. If only some of the players (not mentioning any names eh Julian !?) had your committment **thumbup |
