I've been Bruce's harshest critic, however I have been longing for the day when I could say well done to him. The performance against Fulham, while no classic, was completely what was required. I do wonder why its taken him 4 months to realise what we realised ages ago - but he got there in the end. Now, its still very early days, and I still feel that Bruce should resign because of the way that he completely messed-up the season so far, but that was a big win and I hope there are more of them. I sincerely hope that at the end of the season we stay-up and that I can say that I was wrong about Bruce and apologise. There does seem to be a determination now, that I am sure even Bruce's biggest fan admits wasn't there before, I just hope that Bruce and all the players can now rally and get us out of the hole that we are in and that its not another false dawn. |

Have to disagree, I think we started off with completely the wrong side, the first half was absolute rubbish, not 1 shot on goal against a team that came looking for the 0-0, I suppose all that mattered on Saturday was getting the result and we did that just about. The bright spots IMO were the centre of midfield and the team once the changes were made and we actually tried to win the game, we nearly left it too late, we were a few minutes away from a terrible result. |

We needed to fight the battle before we could go on to win the game. That is what we haven't been doing this season so far, we've tried to outplay teams from the start which we aren't good enough to do just yet. The way we lined up to begin with was just right, we fought hard, won the battle, then were able to bring on classier players like Pennant and Jarosik to try and win the game. Exactly what will be needed from now to the end of the season. |

We left ourselves 20-25 minutes to win the game and just about did it, I wonder how people would have viewed the performance and tactics if the goal had not come. This tactic has worked twice, once against a very poor Sunderland side and again against a poor team who had 2 of their best players missing who were just looking for a draw. I hope I am proved wrong but I think that if we use these tactics against better teams we will probably conceed while playing the battling defensive players and we will stuggle to score in the last 20-25 minutes when the flair players come on. |

You know, it's easy to get carried away with a victory, particularly when it is such an important one. But credit where it's due. Steve Bruce deserves all the praise he gets for his motivation of the team. The grit and determination was there for all to see, when so often recently we have looked weak and disinterested. However I agree with fishblues, tactically what we saw on Saturday was little different to most of what we have been seeing for the earlier part of the season. I dont think it really changes anything. We are still a very poor side who look, to me, destined for relegation. If SB's motivational talks alone can get us out of this mess then I will acknowledge a truly remarkable achievement. In the long term though, we need more than just motivation to progress. |
