ADO TRIAL BLUES STRIKER
By Gerrit van Leeuwen -  Created on 8 Jan 2006

Birmingham's Finnish forward Njazi Kuqi has headed off to the Netherlands for a trial with ADO Den Haag.

Giant striker Kuqi has failed to make much of an impression since arriving at St Andrews last year and manager Steve Bruce is ready to farm him out on loan.

Bruce feels Kuqi is a player for the future, but the arrival of Chris Sutton has forced him further down the pecking order in the Second City.

ADO are looking for fresh attacking impetus and will put the 22-year-old through his paces this week.

Kuqi has been joined on trial by another Finnish striker, with Toni Lehtonen from FC Haka set for a similar spell.

Looks like he will be getting some first team football in Holland, especially with Pandiani staying, Sutton arriving, and links with Earnie and AJ.

Difference being that Kuqi was Bruce's player. Was he recommended by Forssell ? I wish him luck, but having seen him in the reserves he needs to improve an awful lot

Many teams buy players in the hope that they will make it. They put them in the Reserves and gauge whether they are ready for the first team. However, many of us who watch the Reserves regularly have agreed with Bruce that Kuqi is not ready for the first team, so why the clamour to put him in the team?

He is nowhere near as good as the players we have already got and is not ready to be 'given a chance'. I hope he makes the grade eventually, but I remain doubtful.

It is so easy for supporters to say play this or that player from the Reserves, but unless you go and watch them play you are just pulling names out of a hat.

Agreed.

He looked the part last season but has failed to make an impact so far this season.

I think he probably expected to make a first team apperance this season after impressing in the reserves last but as he has not been given a chance I would have thought his confedence is down and he is not playing as he was!

It is a possibilty but as a player you should continue to get your head down and pull out the good performances to make the manager sit up and take notice.

Good decision to send him on loan I think. Let's be honest, if the reserves win or lose, there's not really much glory is there? Playing on loan can only breed confidence because you have fans to play for and team-mates to actually work for.

What i slightly annoying is the wording.

"He is a player for the future"

When is the future? Kilkenny is 19 and has shown he can do a great job on the pitch.

The only way to get 'future players' for the first team, is to just put the players on the pitch, instead of the wait?

True, but Kilkenny only came good after his loan spell where he was able to develop. Let's hope the same is true of Kuqi.

Not everyone is a Kilkenny, Steve Davis, or Steven Gerrard who breaks through and makes an impact.

Kuqi may have been for the future like Oji, Bruce, Till, Doyle, but it doesn't mean they will keep progressing Kuqi was a gamble and it doesn't look like it's going to pay off

I werent saying he was another Kilkenny, but it does look this is going to be a loss.

in all honesty if a striker is good enough then they normally will break through. After all it is one of the few positions where you can judge how a player is doing by looking at stats. If he was going to make it then it would have been last season just before he did his injury. IMO he was the sort of player you play when it's safe to give players like big EM a rest.

His chance may have passed.
