Just looked at the England U21 team.

These players are contracted to lower league clubs.
Matt Kilgallon (Leeds)
Calum Davenport (Norwich Loan)
Daniel Harding (Leeds)

Isn't this the type of investments we need to make? We need to look to the future, not fill our squad completely with older journey men. You can't have all kids, but i wouldn't be suprised if we have one of the oldest average age squads in the Premiership.

Any thoughts?

personally i dont think leeds are going to let kilgallon go. he is a class defender even at his age and is playing regular first team football.

but worth a shot imo

Money talks, and Leeds could do with some.

Yes, hes a Championship defender, but we'll have to get a replacement for Kenny, so why not now? Hes played in the Championship so he'll suit next season if we go down. But if we stay up, hes had 6 months as cover then ready to break in.

Davenport is owned by Spurs isnt he?

He has looked great for Norwich and they are trying to keep him.

Spurs had a great deal when they got Dawson from Notts Forest.

These are the types of players we need to be getting.

I ams still gutted we didnt go that extra mile for Curtis Davies when West Brom got him. He is going to be a fantastic player and has proved he can make the step up to the prem. We really missed out there as the club were unwilling to pay the £3mil fee.

Davenport was a coventry player. I think tottingham bought him and farmed him out again.

Curtis davies is another one to add to the list of "if onlys......."

Matthew Kilgallon has revealed that he received offers from other clubs before signing a new contract to stay at Leeds United.

The 21-year-old defender, who has made eight starts this season, wants to be involved with taking Leeds back into The Premiership.

"There was interest in me from other clubs but this is where I want to be and the fans wanted me in so I have to pay them back by playing well," Kilgallon said.

"It was nice to know other clubs wanted me but this is it for me here.

"I am looking forward to the future now because I've got another two years left here after this and with some luck those two will be in The Premiership."

Kilgallon is also a life-long Leeds fan so that was also a big factor in his decision to re-sign.

"I've been here since I was young, I supported Leeds when I was younger so it's massive for me to sign again but I wouldn't have done that if I didn't think we were going places, but I think we are," he added.

Agreed he looks a good player with loads of years left. But going on this we would have no chance :(

We need our team to start getting younger. There was a time, when it looked like we were about to adopt the Spurs approach of bidding for younger talented players. But ever since that time, we've been linked, enquired or signed older players. Not thats a bad thing but you need a mix. We're the wrong side of that mix.

Below is the squad and ages from Teamtalk.

Sone Aluko 16
Andrew Barrowman 21
Mathew Birley 19
Alex Bruce 21
Nicky Butt 30
Jamie Clapham 30
Stephen Clemence 27
Kenny Cunningham 34
David Dunn 26
Mikael Forssell 24
Julian Gray 26
Emile Heskey 28
Muzzy Izzet 31
Jiri Jarosik 28
Damien Johnson 27
Neil Kilkenny 20
Njazi Kuqi 22
Stan Lazaridis 33
Mario Melchiot 29
Mehdi Nafti 27
Marcos Painter 19
Walter Pandiani 29
Jermaine Pennant 23
Matthew Sadler 20
Chris Sutton 32
Martin Taylor 26
Maik Taylor 34
Oliver Tebily 30
Matthew Upson 26
Nico Vaesen 36

The over 30's

Nico Vaesen 36
Maik Taylor 34
Oliver Tebily 30
Chris Sutton 32
Nicky Butt 30
Stan Lazaridis 33
Jamie Clapham 30

Yeah I thought the same at the time.

I dont reckon Bruce trusts young players to deliver. "Kids wont win you anything?" What a laugh.

He has a sad tendency to sign ageing, overpaid guys on the slide instead - any one remember Dwight Yorke?

What did Darren Carter do wrong and why isnt Kilkenny in the team?

I don't know anything at all about this lad, but i've heard his name mentioned several times on here due to the fact that he grew up in brum.

I heard Barry Fry on national radio waxing lyrically about him too (as he came through the peterbrough youth system) his name is [insert first name here] St.Ledger.

Anyone know anymore - The prem is a huge step up.
