Itt would appear that after seeing his performance last night that the mighty Wigan (yes mighty, with a massive crowd of 12000 for a major cup semi final) pulled off one hell of a coup by beating us to his signature. especially in a position I feel has been our weakest this season ( lets be honest, we never score many) And its one of our main problems as it has generally been our strongest positoin in the preceding Premiership seasons

He was strong, assured and looked totally comfortable with the pace of Our football.

and a debut Arsenal beating goal to boot!!

Seems a real shame, but I still think it means we really need to stay up this year if only to then push on as we really should be with the squad we have so that we can show players like Scharner that they made the wrong decision in the long run

Up the Blues

I'm glad he went to Wigan. If he feels he has a better chance with them then good luck to him. From their performance against us the other week, i would say they could be in for some problems if they dont buck their ideas up.

Wigan a bigger club my ar$e ;)

He went to Wigan as they didn't faff about, closed the deal and because they are in the top half of the table. They are now in the semi-final of the Carling Cup with a lead over Arsenal from the first leg

He didn't join Blues because we faffed about, didn't close the deal (despite the fact that we could of, and should of, months ago) and are second from bottom.

I do wish people wouldn't look down their noses at teams like Wigan, Wigan are were they are on merit. They are there because they deserve to be there. They have a team that play like a team, with a manager that brings them together. We are also where we deserve to be based on the performances this season.

gotta agree with hooby on this one, the table doesnt lie and wigan have pulled off some spectacular results already this season.
as for scharner, he looked ok but nothing special - decent header for a defender but i think almunia should have saved it imo, lehmann would have! ;)

Tebs hey!!!

hes a funny one isnt he,

one game he is great, doesnt put a foot wrong, the next ie man city subbed after 15 mins!!!

As for scharner again, yeah, I agree, if he thinks Wigan are bigger club and wants to go here, fine let him, but realistically when targets come up who are pretty good, its just a sahme that we miss out, and especially when we ar strruggling and really need a major boost, this season will not get any easier

Just a bit dis heartening thats all

PS, any body hear on the news last night that J F Hasselbaink was in brum yesterdauy??

it's the fact that we let him slip through our fingers so easily. You can bet your life that the club were trying another one of thier pay as you play deals. The kick though is that there doesn't seem to be anyone else lined up - but the problem is still there. Bruce and the board deserve a verbal kicking for this transfer fiasco in particular and in general this season. How many players are we loking at and miss out on?

If this is the way we operating now then we deserve to be where we are.

As For hoobys comments

yeah, spot on, and I for one am not looking down my nose at Wigan, I just dont care for Wigan, I care for BLUES !

and I seem to remember people saying the same about us in our 2nd season, top 4 or 5 most of the season. and hey,

look at us now...

Good luck to wigan , it will only get harder form now as most Premiership teams discover after a honeymoon period.

Whilst i except that the table doesnt lie and Wigan are where they are on merit, given some of their performances over the last few weeks i feel they may struggle unless they seriously strenghten in the transfer market this month.

maybe it's Steve Bruce posting on the board. After all it is dear Steve that keeps reminding us of what an important player Tebily was 4 years ago- without realising that the rest of the world lives in the present day.

i think its more a case of small squad/too many games and injuries over the mental xmas period. you say they've had some poor performances which is true, but all teams do except chelski because of squad size/quality. for them to beat arsenal in a semi final is no mean feat, even when not playing at their best. now we're going back to 1 or 2 games a week they'll go again i reckon and be nowhere near the relegation scrap - i also think paul jewel is an excellent man-manager and is getting 99% every game from every player ;)

Jewell is an excellent manager and i would love to see what he could do with our players. He has got the best out of what he had got and no-one can take that away from him. I think come May they will be glad of their good start and will finish around 12th place.

Football, its all about opinions eh ;)

But....

Would Jewell be better than Bruce?

After all, Jewell has got promotion then done well with a team of players that aren't stars but play as a team.

Thats similar to where we were 3 year ago, Bruce hasn't had the ability to push-on and handle "better" players - we can't be certain that Jewell is any better - he could be a Brucie Mark 2

It would be interesting to see if Wigan follow a similar path to Blues in 2 -3 years

It will be very interesting to see. However it seems Jewell has more tactical awareness about him already than Bruce and that can only get better with more time in the premierleague.

jewel turned out to be poor for bradford in the end, with the "big" name players not really doing it for him - one of our suppliers is a bradford st holder and says he hopes he never darkens their doorstep again, he put the club back 5 years...
