Mr Steven Bruce, manager of the St Andrews Donkey Sanctuary this afternoon launched an impassioned plea for more donations after Christmas left him with a glut of new donkeys. "Christmas was tough, thats for sure" said Mr Bruce "and we've certainly got a lot more donkeys than we expected" Luckily, Mr Bruce was able to sell Walter (an ageing South American Donkey) to a refuge in Spain, however he soon faced the problem of Jason, a donkey from South London, coming and taking his place. "You see, I get rid of one old nag, and get another in. People need to understand the pressure I am under". Mr Bruce revealed that only this morning his old mate Steve had called him wanting to get rid of Jimmy, an extremely old and stubborn mule. Mr Bruce explained how this all started "well, I was running a football club, then along came Kenny, most people would have sent him to the knackers year years ago, but I didn't have the heart, and it snowballed from there" Kenny, aged 147, is now just one of a large number of donkeys at the refuge. Just walking through the paddock gives you an idea of the scale of the problem. Sad, dolefull faces just stare aimlessly at you. Once these sad donkeys were released they had nowhere to go, luckily the ever-benevolent Mr Bruce was there to pick up the pieces. All that remains of these sad donkeys dignity is there name badge as a reminder of their past glories: Nicky, Muzzy, Mario, Stan and Emile. The list is endless, and their shattered pasts glow like beacons in the darkness of the St Andrews sanctuary. Not all the donkeys are old though, some like Martin are simply lame. Some compound veterinary practice, such as Julian the donkey with no heart. These poor donkeys have nothing except their memories. "Please find it in your hearts to give generously" said Mr Bruce "there are hundreds more donkeys out there that need your help" Donations can be made by calling at the St Andrews Donkey Sanctuary at St Andrews Stadium, Birmingham |

Personally, I'm all for starting a charity that rounds up all the people who aren't fully behind the job that the Donkey Sanctuary manager is trying to do - and locks them up to keep them quiet! I keep hearing all this criticisms of the board and manager of the donkey sanctuary but the fact is that most of the suggestions that come from the supporters of the charity are ludicrous. "Let's go to the Tottingham stable and sign Jermaine The Wonder Horse!" yell some. Perspective donkey supporters, that's what I say. |

Don't be silly, thats way too much. That'll finance the Blues transfer kitty for the summer. They have to come up with something, otherwise they'd be doing nothing! |
