Hi I have lots of downloaded tv shows in AVI format, and want to watch them on my TV using a normal stand alone dvd player, Does anybody know the best way to convert these AVI files so that my dvd player will play them ?? I did convert the files to MPEG 1 format, I burned them to disc and tried to watch on TV but the picture is very poor and stops/starts all the time, this is the same for MPEG 2 as I tried that too. :( I'ts doing my head in now, All i want to do is watch these tv shows on my TV in comfort and not sit in front of my PC and watch them. I have even considered actually buying a dvd player that will play AVI files but thought I may be able to find a cheaper solution. ANY help will be appreciated. Dave |

Heres 2 options for ya : 1-Get yourself a program called WinAVI (Video Converter) and that'll do the job nice and easy, you can add more than one file but you don't get any menu's so sometimes getting to the one you want can be awquard. Although you get just get a DVD-RW disk and do it one episode at a time. 2-Slightly longer winded and with more converting, but you can get several episodes onto a disk - up to about 8 really - in VCD quality which is perfectly watchable. Firt you'll need 3 programs Mainconcept MPEG encoder, (S)VCD2dvdmpg and TMPegenc DVD Author, all can be found in the same sort of places you get your TV shows from. open mainconcept and add your click open and choose your first .avi file, in MPEG TYPE choose VCD and in VIDEO MODE choose PAL, tap INSERT on your keyboard, this will add it to a batch. Do this for all your files then in the batch screen click on the start encoding button. Now you will have all the .avi files in the same folders as mpeg. Personally now i'd move your Mpegs into a new folder. Open SVCD2DVDMPEG click open and choose the folder with the .mpg's in and click ok. on the main screen click on the VCD tab and MPG->ES tab and click Start. Leave the program to do its business and we're neally there. Open up Tmpeg DVD Author, click to start a new project and a file to the first track, Choose the first episode you want BUT NOT the .mpg file you want the other video file - .m2v i think. Click ok and then on the next screen you can add chapters or cut the file to remove any credits or blank bits at the start or end. Now just add new Tracks then files to those tracks for each episode. Probably best to rename the tracks to the names of the episode for the menu later. Now just going along the top click menu and choose how you want it all to look then output it to a folder then burn away. It all seems long winded but to be honest for what you get out it doesn't take very long. If you decide on method 2 and can't find (S)vcd2dvdmpg let me know as i may still have the original setup file. |

It's not a well known make, but its called SHOV and i got it off ebay, all regional restrictions have been removed and it will play most if not all encoding and play back types. Have tried looking on ebay for you for it but there don't seem to be any about but I did find this. Multi Region DVD player |

Dave the best way and i'm talking from experience is to forget about trying to create menu's with music and what not until you are well into the game... firstly try and get hold of a little gem of a program called DVD santa, i know it sounds ropey but take it from me i have been burning DVD's for 6 years and there is no better program that's free, simple to use and has great results.... it will do the job for you..... not to menton the fact it won't create DVD coasters **thumbup if you need anymore advice PM me. |
