Was having a mooch around some websites when I came across these quotes from Bill Shankly. I know he was a Liverpool Manager but what a coach, what a motivator and how I wish we had some one like him!

“If a player isn't interfering with play or seeking to gain an advantage, then he should be!”

“Football is a simple game based on the giving and taking of passes, of controlling the ball and of making yourself available to receive a pass. It is terribly simple.”

“Aim for the sky and you'll reach the ceiling. Aim for the ceiling and you'll stay on the floor.”

“Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I assure you, it's much more serious than that.”

"A lot of football success is in the mind. You must believe you are the best and then make sure that you are.”

"The Socialism I believe in is everyone working for each other, everyone having a share of the rewards. It's the way I see football, the way I see life"

shanks was quality - i remember him being interviewed about tommy smith, and the reporter asked how he could pick such an unskilled player. shanks replied
"son, that man can kick you in the same spot on your leg for 90 minutes, now tell me thats not skillful!!" :D
