Great display by the USA last night that again shows how much we under performed at this World Cup. The game last night was excellent.

Belgium were totally dominant. I enjoyed watching them last night.

I am very pro-USA and root for them in the Olympics when the Brits are not involved. However I always support the other nation in the World Cup. I guess it's because they call it "soccer" and it's something I don't want to see catch on over there.

I'll stick to my NFL and baseball when I'm over there. Can't wait for Sept 14th for my first Redskins game of the season. Everybody I know over there are not into football but I do get pestered about football by the Hispanics and South Americans in Miami and LA.

Clapton, it makes me laugh how Jermaine Defoe cannot be considered because he went to the MLS but a team full of MLS players get out of the group of death and reach the last 16.

Did an American girl break your heart Pooley?
An American girl would never tolerate his wumming or his pure hatred of her nation

Maybe not - but I didn't need to cross the Atlantic to find a woman who could put up with me did I...unlike some **thumbup

Oh Pooley, that really did make me laugh out loud.

You should cross the Atlantic yourself .........you might be pleasantly surprised what a great nation it is and has much to offer to tourists ......ask Lowhdam, he loves it......the people are friendly too

Yes, Parti's right there. I love the States and can't keep away. We'll be there next month and in September I'm off on my own for my annual trip to DC and the Washington Redskins.

Pooley, I don't know what your downer on the States is, but I am sure you'll change your mind if you went across there.

It gets to me also we are always looking for excuses for players that continually let us down. At this world cup we have seen the likes of Greece, Costa Rica and the Usa out perform our guys with passion, desire and ability yet those said players and countries are considered way below our standards.

Nice one DS. You lot really hate the Yankees don't you? I am a Mets fan myself. Last year I did all 4 games of the subway series (Mets v Yankees, two at home and two at the Yankees on consecutive days). I loved it as we did them 4-0. Also it meant I did the Yankee Stadium for the first time.

Hey ! let's be fair though.....and let's not be too over critical of England

The entire Premier League, especially the Elite top 5 or 6 teams is full of foreign stars who are paid mega fortunes yet only serve maybe 2 or 3 years and then move on again

How can we bring on fresh and bright English youngsters if they rarely see 1st team action

This has been an ongoing debate for roughly 15 years or more now

I suppose we just have to wait and see what results the Coaching Academy at Burton on Trent harvest (you have to give the project some time) and on the plus side, England's Under 17's just won the European Championship at that level

Also players like Sterling, Barkley, Shaw, Stones and Oxlade Chamberlian look to have very bright futures and all should figure in qualifying for both France 2016 and Russia 2018

We do have to install that old chestnut of "Pride" playing for England though....that is crucial and has been lost in the mix in recent years ......look how bravely the Yanks fought last night despite being way behind Belgium in basic ability

Here's a prime example

http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/news/wtf/two_men_arrested_by_police_for_saying_nickelback_in_public.html

If you happen to be in Idaho these days, it might be best not to talk about Nickelback, as a two men were recently "handcuffed, detained and interrogated" for mentioning Canadian rockers.

About five minutes of the whole situation was captured on video, showing Kootenai County Sheriff's Office deputies accusing the young men of saying "nickel sack," a reference to a bag of marijuana.

Ultimately, an officer pulled a gun on one of the guys for "getting that attitude and being an a--hole," leading to the mentioned arrest.

Mere moments before the police arrival, a truck was leaving the gas station with Nickelback cranked up in the driver's cabin. "No, Nickelback. That guy was blaring Nickelback," the man holding a cell phone camera defended. "There was no nickel sack involved."

"He's talking about drugs. He's not talking about Nickelback," the deputy insisted. "We're not born yesterday. That's a bulls--t story. He said nickel sack."

In the end, both guys were released with no charges. Check out the clip below for more.

So in short people too big for their boots, coppers no better than the average criminal, ignore the rest of the world exists (unless they can bully them), have to be the best at everything, rewrite their own history and more bloodshed than any other nation on earth

Congratulations, Pooley :applause:

Never have I seen a Football/World Cup topic derailed as blatantly as this

Well Tim Howard seems to be the man to save America from further battering so he's my Presidential nominee for 2016.....He needs to get rid of the Middle Eastern style beard though

I was answering a question someone asked

however I wouldn't count it out that they would elect howard, after all they elected raegan as they liked him as an actor, arnie as governor for the same reason and jesse the body ventura as he was an entertaining wrestler (also as governor)

again, shows the intellect of the people in question...

even if I did, is voting for politicians worse than voting for actors cos you like a few films they have been in?

The yanks probably thought if they elected arnie as governor he would be like his character in terminator 2 and walk around shooting all the bad guys (which to most americans is anyone with a different skin colour, an intellect, or idea different to their own)

We do indeed, it stems from a long way back and I've noticed that over the past few years that it's getting nastier. I don't see it ever being as bad as football over here, well I hope not anyway. I suppose the mets are like blues, the smaller, less successful team in their city. Although unlike blues they've won a couple of championships!

Back to topic.

I notice on here the ex-Pats have talked about Soldier Field fan park and this has been mentioned after each of a couple of games on UK television and radio. Why the big interest in Chicago? Is there a big 1st and 2nd generation immigrants in the city? Also have there been big fanfests elsewhere?

I think I mentioned earlier that I get pestered about football by the hispanics in Miami and in LA but I dare say they follow their own countries - Costa Rica or Mexico or even Argentina. I spent an hour or more talking football to three Argentinians in a bar in Miami. All three live in Miami.

Also, do you ex-pats have an MLS team that you follow?
