Walter Pandiani (born April 27, 1976 in Montevideo) is a professional football player from Uruguay currently playing for Espanyol.

Pandiani, who plays as a striker, has previously played Progreso, Basañez,Peñarol (1998-2000), Deportivo de La Coruña (2000-2002 and 2003-2005), Real Mallorca (2002-2003) and Birmingham City (2003-2006). He has also made one appearance for the Uruguayan national team.

He is known for his ability in the air and good tehnique and has the nickname The Rifle. He had a number of disagreements with his former club - Deportivo La Coruna, and head coach Javier Irureta, which contributed to his decision to leave Spain and join Birmingham City on loan in 2005. Pandiani scored a goal on his debut for Birmingham and went on to score three more goals, convincing manager Steve Bruce to sign him on a full contract the following summer. But he returned to Spain on January 13, 2006 after completing a move to Espanyol for £1.02m. Shortly after leaving, Manager Steve Bruce named him an "Expensive flop".

I don't think he did. Although Wikipedia is a great source for info you have to remember that its editable by anyone and everyone. I could go on there right now and change the Emile Heskey article to say he has scored 200 goals this season for Birmingham City

When did we call him an expensive flop? <_<

If I remember rightly there were loads of topics about why Pandiani was better than Heskey.

pandiani was our best striker, thing was he could'nt show it because of the antiquated form of football we played.

this is what happens when you put footballers into teams that dont play football. ;)

To be honest with you, I don't recall him playing much. Only against Man U when we drew 2-2 (he scored) and when Bruce put on 3 players in one go, Pennant, Pandiani and Gray and then Pennant crossed it in and Pandiani headed it in.

thats what i'm saying if he was used properly and we actually plyed football then i dont think we would be in this pridicverment and he wiould probably have about another 5/6 goals.

Maybe its just me, but i never saw anything in him to suggest he was as good as people said he was, and tbh with the money we wasted on him we could have bought Darren Bent from Ipswich and look at how many goals he has bagged this season.
To me Pandiani was a last minute panic buy who's reputation far exceeded reality. and add to that the fact that it split up Heskey and Morrison's partnership just when it was beggining to show promise.

Ye i agree dr. nick, but brucie insisted on playing heskey on his own upfront instead of layin pandi with him for some obscure reason  But i suppose after the villa game he had no time for him.

i could understand that if he played week in week out willie but lets be honest he did'nt realy get many chances did he,

now if we had played 442 from the off this season i think we wouild of seen a different pandiani.

i think you can only judge a player if he's given about 10 games on the trot in his proper position.

thats why i dont critisise players like tebs when they do something wrong while being played out of position.

it's like having being a paperboy and then asked to drive a truck for the first time. :D

Pandiani wasn't up to our style of play and i hazard a guess he wouldn't be up to most people's style of play in this country.

Its sad when people are more concerned about him when it was the loss of Morrison which should be mourned.

Sadly Pandiani failed to live up to his massive reputation.

Maybe it was just that he couldn't adapt to Premiership football, many can't.

For me, he seemed to be unaware of those around him. Most of his goals were great individual efforts. He seemed incapable of linking up with Heskey for love nor money.

The Spanish game seems to suit him much better.
