Non-league Football; ...where should I watch a game?

Thinking about changing my Season Ticket to a local non-league club. I'm not 'changing club' - but after going to watch Redditch United a few games it really is enjoyable after watching the Premiership 'rubbish'. The players want to play football, and the clubs are glad of your turnstile money.

Anyone support our non-league clubs? Recommendations?

A tale of 2 here. My first team is Cambridge United, who are in their first season back in non-league. I've been to 90% of the matches this season, and it's enjoyable, even when you're only drawing with teams like Canvey Island. The fans are nice, the grounds are different and full of character, and best of all, it's mighty cheap at most places. I've been to all sorts this season, nice, and shockingly scary, but it's right good fun.

And last season, me and my mates went down to Sutton Coldfield regularly, which was also great fun, for the fact you can interract so much with the players, and get involved with the fans and the club itself so easily. I ended up doing a website for them, and writing a fanzine briefly.

If you're not going to go to Blues, then I'd recommend it. I'd go for a Conference team if I were you (Tamworth if they stay up I guess is the option, or Burton?), but it's all just as different an experience.

Depends whether you want the "top-end" of Non-League or the lower echelons. Tamworth may be a good shout, or maybe (depending on location and end of season form), Rushden & Diamonds in the Conf next season.

Solihull Borough - Solihull Borough FC is also worth a visit - although this is based on my 1 visit a couple of years back. Must say it was quite enjoyable - just about everyone goes into the bar / clubhouse at halftime.
They haven't, however, exceeded 250 total attendance this season yet.

KRO,

C.

cheers for that. will still go to the blues but am seriously considering putting my 'up-front money' to a club who will appreciate it. feel really ripped-off this season and can picture next season being more of the same.

tamworth is a bit far for me but solihull is a good shout.
anyone go to bromsgrove, alvechurch, or moor green?

Moor Green are currently playing at Solihull, so you could have 2 teams in one place! ;)

Alvechurch is a nice little place, but I have no idea what league they play in. Never been to Bromsgrove, but they've got a big fan base (for that level), so that could be quite good if you want a bit of noise.

Good progressive football with loads of youngsters in their side - but not for long cos I think they will make the League through the play offs this time.

lol, its ludicrous really, here in burton its £12.50 per match or, as you say, something approaching £300 for a season ticket...however, derby are only £350 for a full adult st!!!!
relatively speaking, it makes prem footy better value for money imo.. ;)

exactly. when you then have a div1 game at say £20 which are you more likely to want to watch as a nuetrel (sp?). Chelmsford City for me.

STOP PRESS

just read my local paper Chelmsford City and Braintree town have been thrown out of the cup for fighting. The cup has therefore been awaded to a semi finalist! lmao now thats the sort of football i want to be watching week in week out!

Chelmsford City kicked out of Cup

By Pat Jones

CHELMSFORD City Football Club has been booted out of the Essex Senior Cup - along with local rivals Braintree Town.

The Football Association found both clubs guilty of misconduct after a cup match was abandoned following a fight among players and managers.

The Essex FA decided to disqualify both teams at a meeting last Monday and now Waltham Forest, who won the other semi-final, has been named winner of the 2005/6 cup.

The FA also fined City £1,500 and Braintree £2,000 and the county authority added £400 fines and ordered them to forfeit £500 prize money for reaching the semi-final.

Team managers, Craig Edwards from City, and Robbie Martin from Braintree, were also found guilty of misconduct.

Essex FA's Chief Executive, Phil Sammons, said: "The committee found the violent, threatening and provocative behaviour of players and managers from both clubs totally unacceptable.

"Clubs at this level have a responsibility to uphold the values of the game."

Not non league ... but get yourself down to Gay Meadow (Shrewsbury's Ground) a week tomorrow! Could well turn out to be our (Lincoln City) biggest game of the season ... as we are both fighting for a playoff place. All depends on how we do tomorrow ...

You know it makes sense ;)
