D J Campbell; what was that all about?

When we signed DJ he was on top of the world, as excited as a little kid on Christmas morning. I am now feeling so sorry for the guy.....his confidence must have suffered a huge knock, not even made the bench in the last few games.
I think he'd have been better off staying where he was, playing week in week out and scoring goals.
Just what was the point in signing him? We always knew that whatever his ability, the big-money guys will play ahead of him........because they cost us more.
If......and it's a big if........we stop up, I can't see him breaking into the side at all next season. Would have been better off keeping Clinton.

Give him a pre-season to help him adjust to the different requirements of a higher grade of football. He was always going to be a gamble, but one that was worth taking. Under normal circumstances he wouldn't have played as many games as he has done because we knew that he would be very raw.

I still think he will make it, but we must be patient, and I'm sure he understands that he has still got a lot to learn.

Do you really believe we will keep him if we stay up?
Or more to the point.......will he want to stay if he's not playing?

Yes and yes

He's joined a much bigger club than the one he left and knows that it might take time to break into the team. It's a calculated risk for both of us, but one that is worth taking.

I think he will. As Blacksmith said im sure DJ realises he has still got a lot to learn to play at this level but he does have the ability. Only being at a club of this size is going to improve him as a footballer

One for the future! **thumbup

If we stop up I'd send him out on loan for half a season to a championship side and see how he does because he needs proper experience and he won't get that rotting away in our reserves because in all honesty you couldn't put him in the first team right now.
He looks an awful way short of being premiership quality, indeed I think he might struggle in the championship, at the moment but he has shown enough to suggest he's worth perservering with.
I'm not sure he'll make it but he deserves a chance to prove himself one way or another.

Hi is definitely one for next season whether it be championship or premiership. the one thing he has got that the rest of our strikers don't have is pace. Give him a pre-season or even loan him out for a bit, he'll get it right in the end. If only we'd given Andrew Johnson more of a chance look who we'd have then! Another example Luciano Figeroa, you watch him in the world cup in the summer, he'll prob score against England!

Not even DJ himself would have expected to make the 16 very ofetn to start with, and would have been delighted, but surprised to be thrown in so early. I think he will be fine with what's going on.

Lets not forget Dj is at present behind the Forse and Sutton in the Pecking order.
But I was a little bit surprised that he didn't make the bench last night seeing how we only had 4 subs on the bench

the idea of a bench is to be able to cover any of the 11 positions on the field with a single substitution ! As i see it, last nights bench covered 9 ! No straight swap for left back or left mid, but wether we agreed or not, the straight swap for right mid got the desired result ! You explain how you can take one away from those 5 and insert DJ Campbell and still cover 9 out of 11 ?

Unless of course youre saying he should have been on the bench rather than the Forrss ?

cobblers, to coin a phrase....

dj is one for the future apparently, its not like he's the only player ever to be bought by a prem side gambling on his attributes everybody was screaming for, ie pace and a predatory instinct....give him a chance ffs.. <_<

Figrol got badly injured.
Pretty sure he's gonna miss the world cup.

Remember, DJC has only been playing professional football for a year (or less).
He's a lot to ctach up on.
I've been quite impressed when he's come on. He's got a few tricks and pace.
I think he will come good whatever division.
