We are level on points with Pompey, with a goal difference of plus 4

How important could the 5 goals we put past them be at the end of the season????

Yeh i must agree, it would certainly(sp?) be interesting if we stayed up on Goal difference. Would have to give ourselves a big pat on the back :D.

BUT there are some IF and BUT to be delt with first!

I don't want to worry people but I was just talking to a Liverpool fan about the run-in. Liverpool are currently 6 points behind United with an inferior goal difference, with United still to play Boro and Charlton at Home. United cannot be caught now, and Liverpool are guaranteed third spot. So what incentive will Liverpool have on the last day at Pompey? Of course, if they win their semi they will ALSO be concerned with picking up injuries and may even play a weakened team. They are clearly capable of beating Pompey but will they be bothered?

Slightly concerned.

They played a rested team in the cup and beat them, and with players like Hamman, Fowler, Agger, Cisse ect as back up, i think they are good enough, also what makes you think Liverpool dont beleive they can go all the way to second, im sure Benitez beleives so, and anyway Chelsea have a better team than Liverpool for their cup game, so it should even its self out ( and be a liverpool win). **thumbup

A few people at the time have stated just how important those goal could have been.

Pompey are scoring more than us at the moment so that difference can easily be reduced – maybe in the sunderland/pompey game.

i actually believe would have been better if we had won 1:0, that 5:0 score line helped them wake up, and they have reacted earlier than we did, as it took liverpool to wake our lot up... so may have had an effect on them..

hopefully we will stay up without relying in GD

They could be important, however, Pompey play Sunderland at the weekend and I could realistically see them getting three or four against them. A lot will depend upon Lua2 being fit. Unless we get a win against Everton, we could easily be three points adrift and with a similar GD. In short, Everton is now the latest 'most important game of the season'.

Don't write Sunderland off in these final matches. They will be playing for pride and will want to go out on a winning note.
