Will It Go To The Last Game Of The Season?

The equation is that i think we have to win 1 of the next 2 games to make it go to the last day of the season. Have to say i think Pompey will beat Sunderland today...although another Man U performance by Sunderland would be very nice!

Even if we are 1 or 2 points behind Pompey going into the last game i still feel we have a chance - as Pompey end with Liverpool at home.

Then again, if Albion win today............oh all this is doing my brain in!!

yes i think it will go to the end of the season, but when liverpool play pompey liverpool are already going to be guaranteed a champions leauge spot and depending on todays result could have one eye on an fa cup final which might see them rest a few key players.

The whole equation is very simple now

Equal or better Portsmouths result next week - Yes

If we fail to do that then - No

The only other result that will push it to the last game is Portsmouth draw and we loose.

Liverpool reaching the Cup Final just 6 days after the final league game does not bode well as it's unlikely they'll risk Gerrard & Co in a nothing game they're already guaranteed a champions league spot.

So basically I'd say it's beat Newcastle or get the road maps out for next season in the Championship.

Unfortunately if you bother to look at the league table you'll notice that 3pts against us will pretty much ensure Newcastle a UEFA cup place.

As Shearer has said this afternoon that even though he won't be playing he'd love to see them qualify they'll probably be going all out to ensure that he's not disappointed.

Plus - Newcastle have scored 15 goals in their last 5 games and are FULL of confidence.

if we don't win our next game and Portsmouth DO win, it's all over :(

it's just so annoying when pundits give Portsmouth praise all the time, when really, they've (probably) BOUGHT their way out of danger when a team like Chelsea is always slaughtered for ''buying the title'' ;)

I think that we have to win our last 2 games.

That would give us 39 points, which (taking goal difference into account), Pompey could only better by also winning their last 2 games.

A win and a draw would leave us with 37. Pompey would only need to win one of their last two, which I would expect them to do.

So, it's 5hit or bust against Newcastle.

Totally agree... **thumbup

It is very much do or die against Newcastle.... If we are able to win that game i do see us staying up..

I think Pompey will have it tough winning at Wigan, i also believe that there last game at home against Liverpool won't be easy too.... I've seen and heard a few comments about the potential of Liverpool fielding a weakened side especially after their win tonight in the Cup Semi Final. Has everyone forgotten that whoever puts on a Liverpool Jersey for that game, they will want to impress for a place in the cup final side/squad as its their last competitive game before the final.....

Hopefully this time next weekend we will still be all optimistic as we enter the final week.......

if we lose next week, Pompey will only need a draw to stay up :(

A draw would put them 3pts above us, and we'd be ahead on GD.

**thumbup spot on mate.

wigan are going to want to finisih the season on a high, playing for position and pride so it's not going to be easy. And as for liverpool, there are plenty of players good enough to beat pompey if some of the 'regulars' are rested, they too won't want to end the league season losing and as you say, they will want to play for a cup final place. pompey certainly don't have it any easier, Its not easy for any of us!
