Here are Brian Reade's thoughts on Robbie Savage for those of you who don't read The Mirror:

22 April 2006

SAVAGE LACKS LAW SAVVY
Brian Reade

OLD TRAFFORD, May 1974. Denis Law scores the goal for Manchester City which virtually ensures hs old club Manchester United are relegated. He walks away forlornly, shocked and ashamed at the pain he's heaped on the people who used to worship him.

ST ANDREWS, April 2006: Robbie Savage scores a goal for Blackburn which looked like ensuring his old club Birmingham were relegated. He reels away manically, ecstatic and proud of the pain he's heaped on the people who used to worship him.

Is that a definitive sign of the times? Proof of the difference between a generation of Lawmen and Savages? No. Fortunately most players today would react similarly to Law.

It's simply confirmation that Savage is probably the shallowest cretin it has ever been our displeasure to see on a football pitch.

Think it's a bit of a daft comparison because, although I wasn't alive in '74, I'm pretty sure that Law was a United legend - and a United fan. Savage played for us for less than three years and never claimed to be anything other than someone who put his heart and his soul into his job.

The journalist is quite right:-"Fortunately most players today would react similarly to Law"
I give you AJ at St Andrews scoring the winner, not celebrating and receiving warm applause and much respect.

Mo I cannot go with this the mirror hates us someone else hates us. Apart from our local rivals what can Birmingham City have done to annoy anyone? Lose to a team too often or take a sizeable away following – especially when we were in the lower leagues - to other grounds? :)

Okay I'll re-word it - the Trinity Group (Daily Mirror) has issues with Sport Newspapers Ltd (David Sullivan). :)

I've met Dennis Law & he is a lovely lovely man - that goal still haunts him. Spent a good hour talking to him & he taked about George Best too. I met him on my 21st birthday & was having a lovely chat with him until my mates called me back to party. He bought me a magnum of champagne to drink & a magnum to take home too.
