Liverpool linked with winger

Local media reports down in the Midlands are claiming that Liverpool are stepping up their interest in Birmingham City winger Jermaine Pennant.

The 23-year-old has been monitored throughout the season by Rafa's spies and now that City have lost their Premiership status, you would expect him to move on for around £3million although City will want much more.

Simao Sabrosa remains a target but the boss knows he won't come cheap which leaves Rafa looking at others.

Pennant is a decent player but his off the field activities will definitely be a concern for the Reds and that is likely to raise concerns at board room level.

Meanwhile KopTalk Insider sources are reporting that Rafa is sniffing around another talented youngster from the Premiership.

With the transfer window opening on the 8th May, the silly season is about to get underway.

Pennant is a sellable asset. It would have been Upson if it wasn't for the injury. Yes, Jermaine has said he wants to stay to repay Blues, but it's up to the board not Jermaine.

Reckon the deal is done already IMO.

told you all months ago, Pennant will be leaving.... He wants to play for England, and with a new manager about to take over, he can only impress him in the Premiership.

I genuinely think if we sell him we can kiss goodbye to the Premiership for a VERY long time.

Mark,
You haven't experienced relegation before have you?
Right, this is how it works, our best players who we can get any money for get sold. Not for their worth granted, but because they've dropped a division, so does their value monetray wise. It's not on, I know, but that's the transfer market & football for you.
Get used to it, the silly season will start on Monday as will the rumours & the transfer requests from our players.

i think that as well but unfortunatly if he wants to go we will have to sell and for 3mill i think they will take it.

Any chance we can loan him out to a Prem club for a year, in the hope that we bounce back.

1. His value (should he play well) will actually increase
2. We will not have to pay his wages
3. He then does not lose the oportunity to play for England
4. When we go back up (hopefully) we get him back, an even better more experienced player.
5. He keeps his debt to the club

Simple

Liverpool won't agree to lone him ,although I like the idea. If liverpool come in for him his head will be turned andwewill not be able to keep him. Thiswill be massive loss however . Reading had 4 players score60 goals between them this season, and in a very competitive division, goals not clean sheets made the difference for Reading.

We really only have three players who could unlock champ defences, JP and the other two are Fors and Dunny and there are major worries over their fitness!!!!!

I dont think we can keep the player if liverpool come sniffing........ but he will take a hell of a lot to replace!!!!!!! :(

We kept faith with him during his time of need, so the very least he can do is stay with us during ours. Not that loyalty is in high supply or anything, and it would be one of the few instances that it would be seen on display.

But at least give us one season in league fizzy pop and if we cant get right back up, then feel free to leave.

As i have said before, after the statements he has made, I cant imagine Pennant demanding to be sold.

But i have been wrong one other time, so this could be the second.

Hmmm, wasn't everyone saying that AJ would be jumping ship from Palace as soon as the big cats come fishing? Where is he still playing his football? Despite the fact it might jeopardise, and has jeopardised his england chances ...
Let's face it, Jermaine knows first and foremost he owes a lot us, and he has already said he will be staying, so let's not add fuel to the fire, and concentrate on keeping him.

Sullivan will sell him to finance new youger eager players . Read his article, there are not many Blues players worth big bucks thats why we got relegated. No one will want Upson because of his injuries. Who else is worth anything?

as the club is solvent .. I see that it will be the big wage earners who have to go .. not necessarily the most valuable players? .. often it is not the most valuable player that is on the biggest wages and then you have to consider cost per match .. I bet Dunn and Izzet have cost a lot more per match than JP. Granted injured players are not very easy to sell were JP would be. .. but we have to get our out goings down not actually raise money?
I like JP .. he has good skills and is great to watch, but I have always thought he was to lightweight .. he gets knocked off the ball too easy and I have never seen him make a tackle .. he is far from the complete player? If we take our blue tinted glasses off is he really good enough for England or the top 4/5 teams?

A little patronising to Mark to be fair. Besides your reckoning fails to take into account Theo Walcott's £10million+ departure from championship team Southampton to Arsenal, or the multi-million pound sale of Dean Ashton to West Ham.

My view is we should either keep Pennant, or sell him for an astronomical sum thus giving us a large transfer budget with which we'll make our bid to re-enter the Premiership.

There must be no middle ground.

I was having this discussion with someone today. IF Pennant wants to stay then there is no reason to sell him, it shows what an asset we have, that Liverpool are interested i him. But why sell him? The Board are not exacly stretched for cash, 3mil, thats gonna be what, a couple of months interest?

At the end of the day it will come down to Pennant though, because he is the one who has to agree the contract with the club after him, if he stands by his word (dont count for much these days) then he can turn them down and remain at Birmingham!

I can understand why some would want to sell him, and then get some money in the Transfer fund, but what is the point in selling him, and then going out looking for another Penno?

Sullivan has said we don't HAVE to sell anyone, it remains to be seen who WANTS to stay and play in the championship.

A lot depends on whether Bruce stays..........if he stays I think Pennant will too.

Liverpool enquired about Pennant in the jan transfer window but were told he was not for sale. They have since asked of our valuation of him if we were relegated.

Pennant has said he wants to stay but it all depends on the board. Yes they are spouting all this ' we are not a selling club' business again but didnt they say that only 2 weeks before selling Mozza? Didnt they say we wouldnt be outbid on any player in the summer only to be outbid for Parker, Bellamy andd Appaih?

If Liverpool meet our valuation for him then he will be gone.
