And what would we do with £9million? I'll tell you what, replace Pennant with a whole load of players who end up to be crap in the long run and get sold a year later... Pennant NEEDS to stay. |

If I was him I would go, I don't think Blues fans would blame him, unless he went to Villa! |

Pennent should be allowed to go to Liverpool if they make an acceptable offer. How can we stop the lad going to one of the biggest clubs in the country with Champions League football and the opportunity to impress for an England call up on offer. We are no longer a Premeirship club and can't really expect to hold on to top quality players like Pennent when the big clubs come calling. As was posted above that is the reality of regelation.Yes we stood by him when he was having his problems but he has given his all this season and can't be faulted for what has happened.Trying to manipulate him to stay out of guilt is not fair in my opinion and we have to learn from the Savage affair. If players don't want to play for us ( and no I am not saying Pennent does not want to play for us but I can understand if doesn't ) then we should accept that fact, get the best deal we can for the club and move on. I have no doubt that Pennent and Heskey will go.We will need them off the wage bill and want their transfer fees for an extensive team rebuilding, hopefully under a new manager! Let your heart beat strong and all that. |

If the whole Pennant in jail, Bruce sticking by him scinario didn't happen, then we would be seeing Pennant leaving. Although, He's said it many times, Pennant feels he owes a great deal to Bruce and the Club for sticking by him at suck a hard time. Because of this, I feel that Pennant would stay if it was up to him, even if it was Barca offering him first team football. |

9 million! Hardly, time to take the lid off the coffee so we can all bask in its arouma....aaah Nescafe Gold Blend, and now for some rationality... ...We will be lucky to recieve £3 million for Pennants services, not because thats all his talent assumes, but rather because we're in the No Mans Land, the place where nobody wants to be, and frankly, regardless of how much loot Gold and Co have in their napsacks, the financial impact of relegation, i.e. decline in ticket sales, loss in TV revenue etc...will force the hands of the chairman, when the Not so Big spenders come to town. ...Heskey will for follow for a tu'pence, as for the rest, will be lucky if we get a lollipop with their free-transfers. ...On the topic of squads, i think it'll have to be a case of, out with the old and in with the new. For some bizzarre reason, the consensus here is that Kenny can go on, errrr...correction, No he cant! The premiership showed that he's running on empty, and a marathon season in the CCC would be suicidal. ...From a quality perspective, Taylor, Stan, and Clapham have to go. But of the 3, i expect only 1 to depart, with Bruce, who will remain in charge, opting for the tried, tested and failed miserbaly, to mount a sorry excuse for a challenge in the championship. ...As for goals, we will need a centre-forward who can garuntee us the goals that will take us up, and secondly, will be able to offer us something in the premiership, that my friends is not Lee Trundle, Horsfield of Steve Kabba. Yes, all these guys may have the run of the mill in the championship, as do many others, but we're not looking for a short-term fix here, are we? you wouldn't build a house out of paper to see through the summer, tear it down and start afresh in winter would you? exactly, we need to build a side that can cope in the premiership, and to do that, you need quality! |

Only the next few months will show how strong our boards resolve is. Personally I would put money on the fact that he will not be with us next season but I would be delighted to be wrong on that. |

The issue here is not whether Pennant wants to go to Liverpool - of course he does but there are three other relevant factors. 1. He feels some element of loyalty because we stuck by him (although a lot of this was Bruce so it may change if Bruce goes). However I think overall this means he wont push hard to go this season, making it a little easier to keep him. 2. We do have more financial clout than a lot of relegated teams sow wont be forced into taking silly offers, we can put our value on him and wait. 3. His wages are not actually that high compared to a lot of the squad. We want to attract young, hungry fit players who have to some degree started to deliver some potential. This means players in the 19-22 year age group who have had the best part of a full season in the Championship (Billy Jones, Ashley Young etc) or at least a a few games in the prem. These players will cost 1 to 3 million each. We would want to get a couple of them for Pennant so I suspect the value we put on him would be about 5 million |

They do when they get put into prison and then get abandoned by the club which they thought would stick by them, only to get picked up and given first team football by another... <_< |
