Sorry if this has been posted, couldn't see it..

David Sullivan has issued a bitter riposte against 'arrogant' footballers and in the process told Chris Sutton he will not be handed a new contract.

The Blues supremo has never been shy about voicing his misgivings about the football fraternity and following Birmingham's relegation is now planning an overhaul of his playing staff.

Sutton's time at St Andrews has been one of frustration as the experienced hit-man has spent more time on the sidelines than the pitch.

On £45,000 a week Sullivan feels Sutton has not represented value for money and it seems likely that he will not be the only player heading for pastures new in the close-season.

''Every penny has to count,'' said Sullivan. ''Sutton won't be here.

''I think he's a very talented player but he's cost us £45,000 a week, which works out at well over £1 million and he's only played a handful of games.

''We had some lads out there against Newcastle who won't want to break sweat playing in The Championship against the likes of Southend and Colchester.

''So some of them will be gone. We need fresh, hungry young legs.

''Historically, not many clubs bounce straight back but, realistically, I do expect us to.

''We need 20 players who want to play in The Championship. I won't name names but some players haven't done as well as I'd hoped.

''But, then again, footballers are quite arrogant people. Players don't say sorry. A lot of the overpaid, under-achieving players will be going.''

I fully agree. To be honest I couldn't particularly see the fuss people were making with claims that he changed our forward line successfully.

We were cr*p with him, and we were cr*p without him..... :D

we did seem to play better when he was in the team, he is a very clever creative footballer who can create a goal scoring shot by one small neat pass!

Good luck and all the best for your future. **thumbup

I wondered why when there were much more attractive offers he chose us - i just assumed we went on a charm offensive and won him over.

Got to say that the only person to criticise are the people prepared to offer players the contracts that they do.

i think he chose us as we were willing to pay him 45 k a week

play him up fron - something he hadnt been doing reg at celtic

AND

he could keep his options open and still move away at the seasons end

a good player in his day - but he couldnt run

the idea of him and heskey together - NEVER made any sense to me

this i think is brucies BIG failing

heskey/ forsell - didnt set the world alight when both were fit 2 seasons ago

SO forsell gets injured DOESNT PLAY for a year and we bring him back to play HALF FIT alongside HEASKEY !!

heskey / pandiani - didnt look like a good partnership -

SO we chase pandy all over the summer - he missed pre season and starts the season half fit alongside HESKEY (as forsell despite being raring to go!! mail 2 days before the fulham game )

was

NOT FIT

heskey / sutton

we were crying out for a pacy forward to go in behind teams and to take some of the pressure of heskey - who had run his knackers off playing alone most of the season

and we buy

CHRIS SUTTON

who is NOW about as mobile as a battleship

Never understood the rationale, or should i say lack of it, behind the signing of this decrepid old fool, who in his prime, failed in the premiership, and 5 or so years later, with a spoonful of osteorathritis and dodgey cruciates, was reassigned the task of trying to cut it at the highest level.

...This signing stank of Steve Bruce, and the sooner we got rid the better. Next up, Super Mario's broter Luigi Melchiott, Stanley Lazy-ridis, Em-'million better ways to spend your money 'Heskey, and Julian Gray for starters! Then the main course to follow!

Actually bruce wanted to sign these :
Scharner
Lovenkras
Larson (was going to come but barca said no, something to do with a player being in african nations cup)
Euell

Euell a few seasons back maybe, today, does he have any fire in his boots? Lovenkrands, hmmmm...would've been an interesting acquisition, he has got a bit of pace, but then so has Rommedahl!

...I cant imagine either of them wanting to play in the CCC, so i doubt Steve'll be resuming his interest in either of them. I have a earie feeling Francis Jeffers name will pop up at some point, personally, i wouldnt go there, but im sure Bruce will.

Not much doubt that Sutton did a bit of a 'Mike Newell' and was looking to do as little as possible for as much as possible
