According to SHA Forum, Matty's just signed a two-year contract. Hopefully this can be confirmed.

hes just had 2 1/2 years out injured so I think 2 years is fair. if he gets to the end of next year in tact give him an extension

Good enough yes he probably is but fit enough?????????????? After 2 1/2 years out how the hell can you comit to 4 years. If he breaks down again you just waste money. let him prove his fitness and consistency first. 2 years is spot on.

SADLER PENS NEW DEAL

Young Blues defender Mat Sadler has today put pen to paper on a new two-year contract at St. Andrew's and immediately declared his aim to help the club bounce straight back into the Premiership at the first attempt.

Sadler has endured a torrid time with injuries in recent years since first breaking into the team in the 2002/03 season at the age of just 17.

But the likeable 21-year-old fought back to earn a recall in early April this year and has been a key figure in Blues' recent improved performances.

He admits that just a couple of months ago he doubted whether he would have a future at the club with his previous deal set to expire at the end of June.

"I am just happy to get it sorted out," commented Sadler, speaking exclusively to bcfc.com.

"It was looking a bit sketchy a couple of months ago whether I would actually be offered a contract.

"So for this to get sorted for another two years, I am really delighted."

The pain of Blues' relegation this season was all the more acute for Sadler (who is pictured left being consoled by captain Kenny Cunningham after last weekend's decisive Newcastle game) as he was born and brought up in the city as a Birmingham fan.

He is now determined to play his part in ensuring that the side's return to the second tier of English football is as brief as possible.

"Firstly I want to establish myself in the side and then hopefully try and help the team to what I think is an achievable goal of promotion next season," he continued.

"There are some established Premier League players in our squad and if we can hang on to the nucleus of that then we have a fantastic opportunity to bounce back next season.

"But it won't be easy and nobody is under any illusions that it will be."

As a teenager Sadler was a regular member of the England youth set-up and time is still on his side when it comes to the chance of earning full international honours.

But he admits that is very much a long term aim and for now he has his sights set on the more immediate goal of cementing a regular place in the Blues side.

"That is an obvious ambition of mine," concluded Sadler, when asked about his long term aim of England recognition.

"But first and foremost the aim is to hold down a regular place in the Birmingham first team.

"International honours are, of course, a dream and an ambition of any professional footballer.

"But let's take one step at a time at the moment."

Fantastic news!!!!!!!!!!!!! **thumbup
