BLUES have their sights set on bringing young Cardiff City hotshot Cameron Jerome to the club this summer. And the changing of the guard from old to new continued at St Andrew's as Marcos Painter signed a new contract. Blues have contacted the Bluebirds about 19-year-old Jerome and are tempting them with a £3million deal. Jerome, who top-scored with 20 goals, earned an England under-21 call-up this season. With Emile Heskey likely to be sold - he is a target for Blackburn Rovers and Spurs - Jerome is seen as a replacement. He has youth, bags of pace and is aggressive. Although raw, the Huddersfield-born striker is eager to progress. Those attributes fit in with the new ethos manager Steve Bruce reckons is required to breathe life into Blues after the depressing descent into the Championship. Albion are also believed to be keen on Jerome, and they loaned Cardiff midfielder Jason Koumas to them this season so they could try to broker a swop deal. Cardiff manager Dave Jones has to offload players in order to bring new blood in. Blues' proposal to Cardiff is made up of a £1.5million down payment with a further £1.5million depending on games and success. In January, Jerome came under Blues' scrutiny but co-owner David Sullivan blasted the £3.5million (minimum) asking price of owner Sam Hammam. Centre-half or left-back Painter has followed the lead of other Acdemy-reared youngsters Mat Sadler, Mathew Birley, Asa Hall and David Howland in agreeing a new contract. He faxed his signature on a three-year agreement to St Andrew's yesterday shortly before flying out to Azerbaijan with Ireland under-21s. Painter, from Curdworth, made his debut as a substitute in September at Scunthorpe United in the Carling Cup. An uncompromising competitor, the 19-year-old was handed his Premiership bow in December for a crucial home fixture against Fulham, which ended in Blues' first home win of the league campaign. Painter is among a nucleus of up-and-coming players who Bruce will be relying on heavily next season. After showing the door to nine big-earning senior members of the squad since the last match at Bolton Wanderers, a shift in emphasis is clear to see. Sam Oji and goalkeeper Colin Doyle are also considering new offers, and the latter's decision is crucial after Maik Taylor's back-up, Nico Vaesen, was released. Doyle is wanted by Millwall, where he impressed on loan, and they are prepared to hand him a bigger salary than Blues. Alex Bruce, who is also away with Ireland for their European Championship preliminary-round first-leg qualifier, still has another year left on his contract, as has Peter Till. Meanwhile, Blues have categorically denied that Julian Gray and Olivier Tebily were two of the players who refused to play at Bolton. They were named in national newspapers but Blues have issued a statement saying the reports were 'completely false and inaccurate'. It added that 'the main instigator of any problems is no longer at Birmingham City Football Club'. Gray, in particular, had been struggling with an ankle injury - he was clearly in discomfort and had to come off the week before against Newcastle United - and went over on it again in training on Friday. Players have been left bemused by the claim, made by the manager in a post-match interview. Those who have since departed and were not in the 16 all had injuries to varying degrees and it seems that it wasn't a case of individuals actually refusing to 'strike' per se. IMO he would be a great signing |

he would be a great signing, but i'm sure some of the lower prem clubs will look at him teams like charlton, fulham, sheff u,reading etc,etc my guess is that he would sooner play in the prem. |

I've seen him play at under 21 level and he looks better than Darren Bent, Defoe, Ashton etc all did. The only thing is he's one of those players who seems to suddenly lose form. Still, Jerome has so much class that if he comes of he could be our best ever signing. He's not a risk signing at Championship level. He'd become a regular u21 international under us, get the chance to settle and be ready for the PL. Fooking off Emile 'waster' Heskey and singing Cameron Jerome would restore my faith in Birmingham City. |

Yep. PL teams will wait to see if they can get a forward who's proven before trying to sign Jerome. If we try to sign him before the likes of Spurs, Sheffield United, Fulham etc we could get him. Don't waste time, this time. |

To me looking at this, there is no comment coming from the club, just a rumour coming from Cardiff.....until I hear officially from the club they are in talks and even then until he's holding up the shirt then I'll think its possible I think this is them placing out that clubs are looking at him and hoping for clubs to come in an getting an auction started for him........ He'll end up at a Premiership club if he does move. like Sheff Utd |

Love to see him at the club - Young, enthusiastic, and scores goals at this level. Would be great if we could sign him, and it would fill me with more confidence about next season. If we do sign him, that would show some serious ambition IMO! |
