On teletext this morning it says a "source close to cardiff" say Blues have no chance of signing him as he is wanted by six premiership clubs. The thing that frustrates me though is we could have signed him in January - he could have scored the goals to keep us up. But we deem him too expensive at 3 million - and say that he is too much of a gamble to keep us in the prem.

Yet once we are actually relegated we now try and buy him for the same fee. All of a sudden he is not too expensive and now he has even less chance of keeping us in the Prem.

I would love us to take a gamble on him, i just think we have waited too long to do so.

You're making the assumption that we were really trying to get him, it was clearly a bogus bid doomed to failure in a bid to generate confidence prior to season ticket sales, we can't have realistically bid as we don't know the situation regarding the manager/new manager

i feel like were the punch line in an only fools and horses sketch where the two brothers outsmart each other and end off in a worser position than before. Uncle Albert pops up with his during the war or when the injuries have gone speech!

Happy days!

Oh don't worry I know its only paper talk, put if I didn't have some slight, niave belief in what the papers report may have a 1% chance of being slightly accurate my life would be much emptier - I so much look forward to reading the sports pages every morning with my breakfast to read the rumours, it's like santa, eskimos and Heskeys England career. I know they don't really exist but its fun to believe...

If you beleive we've made a bid.

Albion try to beat Blues to Jerome

West Brom are hoping to beat Birmingham to the signature of Cardiff striker Cameron Jerome by offering a £3million straight-cash deal.

Relegated Blues have reportedly offered the Bluebirds a cash deal of £1.5million, plus a further £1.5million in add-ons such for appearances and goals, for the 19-year-old who hit 18 league goals last season.

Steve Bruce is looking to rebuild his squad at Andrews after releasing seven players - Mario Melchiot, Jiri Jarosik, Nicky Butt, Chris Sutton, Jamie Clapham, Stan Lazaridis and Nico Vaesen - earlier this week.

But rival boss Bryan Robson aims to snatch Jerome from under Bruce's nose by putting £3million in hard cash on the table at Ninian Park.

Robson has money to spend after the last-minute sale of Robert Earnshaw in January's transfer window - and has turned to Jerome after John Hartson hinted he is likely to extend his stay with Celtic.

The Baggies boss is under no pressure to dismantle his squad following their relegation from the top flight - and has revealed he plans to add "one or two" new players to his current playing staff.

Robson said: "It would give us a great chance if I could keep this squad together and add one or two for next season.

"I've got ideas of what I would like to do and who I want to keep.

"Once we decide on the lads who want to stay, and who I want to stay, then we'll have a look at the budget and see what players I can bring in."

QPR centre-back Danny Shittu is widely tipped as the other player on Robson's wanted list, and would command a fee of around £2million.

It's not the time for spin, PR, rumour, speculation - it's time for ACTION.
If we have any ambition or desire to get back to the Prem, then we have got to stop faffing about and get players signed up. We don't want another Scharner, Davies etc on our hands.
Otherwise KC will be proved right.

Jerome wont go to WBA or Blues - he has premier league clubs interested in him.

the board have the money but it is down to if they want to spend it. I think if they are faced with a straight payment deal they will not go for it. They seem to like the buy now pay later mentality!

If that is the case, fair enough. Can't blame him wanting to join a Premiership team. But if he does go to the Albion, and we are outbid AGAIN by them then, thats shows our intentions.

Of course it is, we do it every season, why the surprise?

We never had any intention of signing Jerome, we made a silly bid that was always going to be refused and then it was conveniently leaked to the papers

Basic stuff really

Sorry Dr Nick I didn't mean you were surprised, it was a general observation

It amuses me no end when you see posts saying "Oh Jerome will be fantastic for us next season" when we're not even in the running

Of course, they also believe that the board are like the mounties "and always get their man" - the caveat that is never shown is that "they always get their man if he is old, injured and no-one else can be bothered"

I'm still happy and excited that he signed. I truely believe that he will be outstanding for us next season...especially if we get the correct backroom staff to help him through.

I just hope he stays with everything that's happening.
