The answer to our relegation is found within a statement made by Steve Bruce.

‘A team is only as good as its Strikers’.

Sunderland, WBA, Portsmouth, Vile, Middlesborough, Charlton, Fulham, Wigan and West Ham all conceded more goals than us.

In fact our defensive performance over the four seasons in the premiership has been relatively static conceding 50 goals this season, which compares to 46, 48 and 49 in the previous 3. These stats would hardly point to the fact that Upson's injury was a major problem.

Only Sunderland has scored fewer goals than us and when you compare this season to the previous 3 you can see why we are down. 28 goals this season compared to 40, 43 and 41.

The Manager made the errors last summer and all this crap about not being allowed to bring Schanner and Davies into the club being a major error is nonsense. The facts show that Heskey, the Forrs, Pandiani Sutton and DJ got us relegated.

Disagree.

The facts show we did not score enough goals.

I have seen at least 70% of all premiership games this season and I would say that our chance conversion rate is no worse than many teams. the real problem is we dont create the same amount of chances.

Thats not just down to the strikers, its down to the midfield and fullbacks too, possibly more.

Sprt of lets martin taylor off the hook though..............................!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And...we played 4-5-1, with Heskey as the only striker for God knows how many matches.
We've played 4-5-1 with strikers sitting on the bench the whole match.

Bruce also called for more goals from midfield, time and time again.

To mis-quote the geratric Geoffrey Howe:

"He sends you out to the crease, only for you to find he has broken your bat !"

:D

Our strikers scored 10 of our 28 goals that means that 70% of our goals came from midfield or defence.

Our shots on target (by our strikers) is a bloody disgrace.
