If we have offers on the table for players as the statement suggests, this points to the fact Bruce is going nowhere in the immediate future doesn`t it???

offers and purchases are entirely different things - i went into currys today and offered them £250 for a 42" £2500 hdd telly, they told me to do one - get my drift?
we had offers in for parker, bellamy, some £10m striker - none turned up.... ;)

Exactly. Just the board attempting to con us all into thinking they spend more than they actually do on the club. The stupid thing is, they do spend a lot of money on the club, but their obsession with spin does them no credit at all.

David Sullivan said: "I accept Kenny's criticism

I think under normal circumstances David Sullivan would have been more volatile in his response to the criticism......

However, i'm sure David Sullivan will feel like one of his prized horses has romped home again after reading what KC had to say. I'm sure a copy of this will be stockpiled in readiness for the next board meeting and all the ammunition he ever needed to remove Mr Bruce.........

thats the message to the stock market. Kenny might as well have got Sully to write it for him, it's that perfect!

TBH I can see both sides.

Clearly something was wrong at our club last season (and even the season before)- shoddy team selections, rubbish fitness (the players looked knackered aftr 5mins and strolled around all game) unbelievably atrocious tactics, poor signings etc. etc.

On that front, I can see KK's criticism as he is simply articualting what I (and many other's feel.)

On the other hand, I do not think the board could be directly blamed for the 'souless' atmosphere. Many people around me arrived resigned to hoofball, and as soon as you saw the teamsheet had Heskey alone up front etc. you KNEW EXACTLY what to expect. So much falls at the feet of SB. People have tried to blmae Black, Bullivant bla bla for the demise, but, when it comes down to it, so many fundamental errors were made by SB.

The main criticism I have of the board is not dispensing with his services. Maybe that is why KC has criticised them? Otherwise, I simply do not see what they did wrong. They may not have given SB as much money as some of us would have liked, but still more than enough to build a decent squad. SUlly et al did not pay over the odds for players such as Heskey, or fill the side with 'combatative' midfielders.

I really dont think the board should be blamed here. I can criticise them for two things all things considered 1) investement in injury prevention - but shouldnt the manger be lobbying for this? 2) Not sacking Bruce earlier (after Man City)

Cunningham when he talks about tactics and the use of Jarosic in the crisis meeting is basically saying the players had no confidence in the manager to pick the right team. If im going to criticise the board is that they should have picked up on this dissension earlier. But they were loyal to their man.

To the supportes who resent David Sullivan and the Gold Brothers for not spending vast majority of their personal wealth on the club I would just like to say that they always try to be financially prudent without just throwing money about. They have backed every manager to the hilt and spent more money on players and wages than clubs around us in the premiership. Its not as if its Doug Ellis we are talking about. We always want more which is fair enough and i do echo these sentiments however I do think its a bit harsh to criticise them for it. If/When they do leave the club it will be on much better footing than when they arrived. I really do think we should get behind the club and the board on this one. From Cunninghams comments its Bruce's ineptitude that has cost us relegation.

Agree with you. SB has largely wasted the money. Look at the money with are former real "competitors" in the Premier League they have performed with alot less money. Only Vile have wasted more money than us

Thankyou I agree with you holeheartedly I really hope people can see this. In my oppinion we have good owners and the club is in good hands with them.

I think its really sad that it has come to this, if there was one person who I thought would walk away with pride and respect it would be Kenny Cunningham. Regardless of whether what he says is true or not, there was very little need to come out and say it in the press. I have always really liked Kenny but I have to admit that I am a little disappointed with what he has chosen to do and like I said I am really saddened by this war of words in the press between our chairman and one of our most loved players.

This is getting messy now, I prefered it when everyone had a gagging order, before Bruce decdied to come and say that there were players that didn't want to play and players saying that the club is poorly run. :(

It is sad that it has come to this, but the fault lies with the management - specifically Steve Bruce and his employers for not putting any real pressure on him.

Cunningham has said what has needed to be said for a long, long time. It was aired in private during the season at team meetings, but nothing was done. As a result, Cunningham feels he has no choice but to take these views into the public forum. He's the club captain, protecting his players from being completely blamed for our relegation while the major fault lines lie in the management of those players.

When criticising Bruce, Kenny said: "Now, how do you gain that respect and trust? You gain it by standing a short step in front of your players and leading them. By supporting them every way you can and backing them to the hilt as best you can, even if by doing that it incurs the wrath of the powerbrokers."

Those words could equally apply to Cunningham, but the difference is he did step up to the plate on behalf of his players rather than try to cover himself by coming out with excuse after excuse and finally blasting certain players for not playing while injured in a meaningless game at the end of the season.

I think you will find the club as a whole is not in a complete mess. However the playing side is. Yet I take your point. The board is culpable for the hiring and firing of the manager. So yes they do need to take responsibilty for this.

Financial side is a mess too, according to Sully's interview in last week's mercury.

Granted, apart from the playing side and the financial side and the general malaise engulfing the club, the board are doing a great job **thumbup **thumbup

yet Kenny, who remains an employee, has chosen to publicly express his views through the media, without seeking prior permission or consultation, and not directly to any member of the Board, despite limitless opportunities to do so.

i'm sure during his meeting/phonecall with Sulky after the outburts following the Liverpool defeat Kenny expressed his views just perfectly.

Lol fair enough. There are various conflicting reports on the clubs finances but I do think the club is run well enough off the pitch for a Sheffield Wednsday, Bradford type thing to happen to us.

I don't think the purchases of players have been bad.
KK doesn't mention this, what he mentions is the use of them.
Pennant, Jarosic (even Heskey), Kilkenny etc etc have all been good buys.
He's saying it's the way that Bruce has played people which is wrong.
We've all been saying that for years.

That's probably true, but think of it this way.

Say the week after promotion the board had stepped down & handed responsibility for running the club to me....

Then 4 years later, I had...

- stood stubbornly by a manager who then led us back to the championship

- allowed the premiership revenues to be spent on the likes of Sutton, Butt, Heskey, etc

- allowed the coaching / training regime to deteriate to the point where a professional such as KC absolutely slams it

- failed to grow our fan base, alienated ST holders & was looking at dramatically smaller crowds next season

- allowed a mood of recrimination & a lack of direction to permiate the whole club

... would you be saying "nice job mr p" or "well, you f***** that up, didn't you?" ?

I think your right and what your referring to is the unity of the club. When Bruce arrived everyone was gunning in the same direction and we were successful for a period. Now everyone seems to want to have a pop from the manager, board players etc.

- stood stubbornly by a manager who then led us back to the championship

This I agree i critcise the board for. The writings been on the wall for a long time.

- allowed the premiership revenues to be spent on the likes of Sutton, Butt, Heskey, etc

Yes they did but the manger bought these players. If they vetoed these signings we would be moaning that the board was interfering with the playing side of the club

- allowed the coaching / training regime to deteriate to the point where a professional such as KC absolutely slams it

Again isnt the manager responsible for this?

- failed to grow our fan base, alienated ST holders & was looking at dramatically smaller crowds next season

Cant really complain. But it is a consquence of relegation as much as anything.

- allowed a mood of recrimination & a lack of direction to permiate the whole club

As i said at the beginning of our post everyone has to pull together now. The reason we have come apart at the seems so to speak has been the lack of confidence in the manager and the hesistation over what to do about it.

AHHHH why didnt he get the boot after the Man City game. Im sure we wouldnt be in this mess right now!

Co-owner David Sullivan has hit back at Kenny Cunningham's claims that future of the club is a worry with he and David Gold in charge.
The defender, who was released by Blues this week, claims the spirit within the club is a pale imitation of which he knew at Wimbledon and described the club as a 'stiff corpse'.
The Republic of Ireland international was also critical of the funding as Blues slipped out of the Premiership.

Cunningham said: "Jack Walker and Steve Gibson are two individuals who have amassed significant personal wealth. But I think their attitude to the football clubs differs hugely to the attitude of David Sullivan and the Gold brothers.

"The difference is that these people were born into those areas and grew up alongside the football club and its supporters and as a result had a real passion for the football club and a love of the area."

But Gold has responded, telling the club's official website: "I accept Kenny's criticism that we are not from Birmingham and don't have the local knowledge and passion that a local owner would have.

"But throughout the years we have been at Birmingham, we have repeatedly asked from rich local people to invest in the club and/or replace us. No-one has come forward with any offer of significant investment.

"It does hurt when a player to whom we have paid millions of pounds in salary criticises us for not spending enough money!"

That's a Sullivan quote, not a Gold one isn't it? It's been attributed to Sullivan elsewhere.

The truth hurts doesn't it Mr Sullivan? Fair play to KC for letting the cat out of the bag. Someone needed to say it. If it had been someone like Savage saying all this stuff I would have taken it with a pinch of salt. But KC is a true professional... and I respect his opinion and believe what he's saying.
