KENNY Cunningham is likely to be fined by Blues for his explosive criticisms of the club and Steve Bruce.

Co-owner David Sullivan said he couldn't understand Cunningham's motives for the outburst yet, on the other hand, he agreed with some of the points he made and said other gripes would be analysed.

Bruce's position as manager has not been undermined by Cunningham's comments, though.

Contacted in Portugal, where he is enjoying a short break, Bruce said he would keep his dignity and declined to respond. But he has had a furious telephone conversation with his exskipper to register his disgust.

Cunningham's revelations, which continue in today's Birmingham Mail, caught the club totally by surprise.

But they will exact some 'revenge' by docking him the maximum fine allowed as he is still under contract until June 30.

Sullivan told the Birmingham Mail: "I am extremely shocked that someone who is still drawing a very healthy salary from the club should make such unkind comments.

"You have to wonder what his motives are. Why has he turned on a club that has paid him millions over the last four years and a manager who brought him in and has stood by him? Maybe he is bitter because he did not get a new contract, I don't know."

Sullivan continued: "Kenny is a bit of a volatile person. I had an hour's conversation with him a few weeks back and he likes to shout down the phone - I had to hold it away from my ear.

"Possibly he believes what he has said, in a weird sort of way, might benefit the club. When he talks about us as owners not having the same passion or commitment that Jack Walker showed to Blackburn and Steve Gibson has to Middlesbrough, he's right.

"We do not have the local ties or knowledge but that has not stopped us giving our best shot. And, as we have repeatedly said, if there is anyone out there locally who wants to invest or thinks they can do a better job, then they can replace us. But no-one has ever come forward in 13 years."

Sullivan said the board would look into Cunningham's grievances, but they had not sounded a death knell for Bruce.

"His is one voice, it's his opinion. He's not necessarily the Brain of Britain. Maybe some of the issues he has raised are well worth considering and taking on board. Maybe they might influence our decision-making on certain things, and other people's decision-making.

"As far as Steve goes, he remains our manager. He's gone away for a few days to get his head together, but we expect him to come back and continue to plan with us for next season.

"We have spent the last 10 days identifying players to bring in and we have made contact with clubs and agents. That has to be our focus, not this."

Worth noting that Sully does not dispute what Kenny said.

How on earth they can stick with Bruce now is beyond reasonable comprehension.

At least Sullivan recognises that some of Kenny's comments might be valid.

He's missed the point with some of this though. If Kenny is shouting down the phone at him maybe Kenny is very frustrated at the situation. Maybe he's discussed many of these issues on numerous occassions and been ignored. The comments from Sullivan on the players' commitment was probably the final straw. Maybe it would be worthwhile to just listen to the guy eh?????? Sullivan doesn't understand why Kenny went to the press- well maybe sitting down with the guy rationally would have given him the answer!

Definately a better response from Sully, and the fact they say they are taking note to some of Kenny's comments can only be a good thing. They may not rectify them, but at leat they will investigate.

Just wonder how they can still stick with Bruce? Unless they do not believe the players have lost faith in him.

I seem to recall that, at the time Sully was coming out with his comments about the players, there was an article saying that he had since spoken to KK. Note the word 'spoken' - now he's saying KK 'shouted' and he had to hold the phone away from his ear. Hmmm

He did make a good point. This is the oppinnion of one individual in an entire dressing room. The board should make an effort to speak to players who judgement they trust to find out whats really going on.

Looks to me as though the board have taken more notice of how the fans have reacted more to what Kenny has said

This is the man who is/was the club captain - nominally the voice of the dressing room.

In most clubs the it is the club captain who voices the concerns of the dressing room as a whole and it appears that this is what Kenny has done.

If the board persist with SB after this then surely the only way that SB can be removed from the club is by the fans stating loud and clear that they want him out.

After all wasn't SB who said he'd go if the fans turned against him? - Seems the players already have and he's hanging on for our opinion.

We do not have the local ties or knowledge but that has not stopped us giving our best shot.

The bottom line is that they have not given it their best shot. Our owners are worth a billion & they could have given it a much better shot if they had chosen to do so.

(note : I said "could have", not "should have").

If ever you have had to speak to Kenny you'd know how loud he can speak, I've had to speak to him on 2 occasions on a work related issue and he can have what is called a very sshort temper and tend to shout when speaking.

Still time for Bruce to go

Prior to KK'S statement to the post, I cannot recall One post ever criticising him on this board.

When I read what he said, I thought this bloke can read my mind.

Whatever replies the board, sources, come up, with its simply like Mandy Rice Davis's quote " Well they would say that wouldn't they"

I believe KK
