will he have a go at the fans for supporting an ex player and turning on im and not giving him he chance, and therefore forcing him out of the club he loved

OR

will he thank the fans for there maginificent support over his time at the club, apologise for his mistakes and wish us all the best for the future

I'd like to think it would contain large parts of the latter. I would however, want him to acknowledge that this is a big club with legitimate pretentions to be a regular top 10 side, and that the high standards required to attain and maintain such status have not been met and that the supporter base is quite within its rights to be critical of him.

That is my hope. Moreover, I would prefer it if he were working on such an exit statement as I write.

the events of the last few days have done me in !!

i have felt for 18 months that something is not right down there

K C comes out and says what he feels (which may explain the results)

and people on here are claiming sour grapes etc

i hope im proved wrong but i think if he stays we will be very lucky to get near promotion next year

If I were SB's PR man I would advise something like :

- Say how much he has enjoyed managing the Blues

- Remind folk that he got us in the Prem & kept us there for 4 seasons

- Touch on the "bad luck" last season, with a roll call of injuries

- Say that, notwithstanding the bad luck, as a honourable man he needs to accept his share of the responsibility for relegation; it's been a brutal, exhausting experience which will only make him a better manager in the future

- Emphasise his great relationship with the fans & the owners & say that he would not want to jeopardise that by outstaying his welcome

- Say that this is probably the right time, in the interests of the club, to make way for a new man with fresh ideas to work on the promotion campaign

- Say that he plans to take a short break from football to take stock & consider his options (whilst getting his agent on the phone to Delia asap)

- Thank the board & the fans

It will be:

The board of Directors are sad to announce the departure of Steve Bruce from St Andrews after a period of four years with mutual consent

Steve and the board had been discussing plans for the forthcoming season, however after a period of reflection Steve has decided to take a break from the extreme pressures of football to spend more time with his family. David Sullivan said "we are sad to see Steve leave us, he is a man of integrity who did a wonderful job for us for the last four years, he is a friend as well as a colleague and we wish him, and his family, a very happy future". Steve Bruce said that he was sad to leave the club and added "I want to say thank you to the board for their understanding, but most of all I want to say thank you to the fans for being behind me all the way, they deserve success and I am sure the board of directors at Birmingham City will deliver. I had four great years at St Andrews and the achievements of getting them to the Premier League and signing England internationals will rank alongside all the trophies I won as a player. I'll be spending some time with my family, playing a bit of golf and then I'll see what I want to do after that".

Expect to see that next Friday (and, Perry, I'll be checking and if there is any plagiarism I'll sue those Villa boxer shorts off you  )

And burn them ;)
