:applause: Clayton Donaldson is set to sign for Birmingham City next week. Personal terms have been agreed with the 30-year-old striker, who is available on a Bosman free transfer. All it needs now is for Donaldson to pass a medical, which is booked in for Tuesday. Donaldson is currently in America on honeymoon, hence why there is a wait until his return to these shores. Brentford were hopeful that Donaldson would accept their new contract offer. But Blues have managed to persuade the Bees' star man to move to St Andrew’s; they received his decision in the past couple of days. Donaldson’s impressive goals return made him a top target of Lee Clark. He scored 18 in helping Brentford to runners-up behind Wolves in League One this season. And his overall tally for the club stands at 53 in 155 games. Previously with Crewe Alexandra, Donaldson hit 49 goals in 130 games at Gresty Road, including 29 in his last season of 2010-11. After beginning his career at Hull City (five games, one goal), Donaldson came through the ranks of non-league before a move to Hibernian in 2007 (six goals from 26 appearances). It is not just a knack of finding the back of the net that appeals to Clark, but his physical power, speed and height. The 6ft 1in Donaldson, who is effectively replacing Nikola Zigic in the Blues ranks, can be quite a handful for defenders. http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/birmingham-city-clayton-donaldson-agrees-7297232 |

Kept an eye on this lad last season,Good strong powerful player whon knows where the net is,Will be well chuffed if this one gets over the line,A good left winger now and we are nearly there,And the great thing for me is nearly all the squad are in place for pre season training,I think that is so important for the manager. |

Your right Lucky its Vital with so many new faces that they can all be together for a pre season, and even then we should give them at least a good half dozen games together to get an understanding of each others game. So glad they are actually our own players as well, one or two loans is fine but its a massive plus to have them on two year deals. Would be delighted to get Ibe back now and we would be ready to go, can`t wait tbh. :blues: |

Hi Canadian, Me too mate - t'ain over till it's over - and I know this is off topic but I'm no longer allowed PMs on here just gotta say, I blame Rooney for our disgust, for while he did play well he should have scored twice against Italy and should have had a hit-trick against Uruguay and one well taken very near-miss. As Bluenose supporters we all know if you don't take your chances you don't win games! I thought I was watching Nikola Zigic at times.......... :lager:  Edited by Engleman, Jun 20 2014, 09:41 AM.

Brentford beat off stiff competition to secure the signing of Clayton Donaldson on a free transfer from Crewe Alexandra in the summer of 2011. The 30-year-old was the top scorer in League Two in 2010/11 with 28 goals and hit 29 in all competitions. He left Crewe after three years to sign for The Bees. The powerful striker came through the youth ranks at Hull City and scored prolifically for York City before a move to Hibernian in 2007. He spent a year in Scotland before a switch to Crewe in 2008. In his first season at Griffin Park he scored 11 goals and assisted 16 more – he ended up second on the League One list for goal assists. In his second season at Griffin Park he passed the 2011/12 tally by the end of November and finished with 24 goals in all competitions, the second best in League One. Clayton has continued to score regularly in 2013/14 and is now approaching 50 goals for The Bees. Lee Clark's bidding war! :applause: With Striker video! **thumbup Edited by Engleman, Jun 20 2014, 12:18 PM.

Yes saw that a few days back, Looking at those goals he is certainly better than a div 1 player, especially the first two goal very composed on the first goal and new exactly what he wanted to do to score hit the ball so sweet. and he also runs the channels very well, excellent first touch,I would say he can easily play in this div, and it makes me wonder if Cameron Jerome can play in the prem then why has no one looked at this guy before now. |

Good question zxcv! Certainly a determined target of Lee Clark, he was right about our top goal scorer Lee Novak and I still expect him to be proved right with regards to Matt Green! |

Yes some very promising players at the club now, What I like most about Lee Clark is he knew way back before the season even ended what he wanted to do and who he wanted, in fact he had most of them lined up months ago, Talk about forward planning. Lets just hope they can all quickly gel and that may take a little longer than just the pre season so fans need to be patient but I think they will be. |

Crass definition: without refinement, delicacy, or sensitivity; gross; obtuse; stupid. i.e. crass commercialism; a crass misrepresentation of the facts. Lee Clark is a Championship Manager! his critique on what I regard as a brilliant pre-season job done so far in terms of his recruitment in service to us before new owners come in and under the well published financial constraints he is in, is Sad from any Bluenose when we should be applauding what's happening at St. Andrews right now! As Loz.JBB. has already posted on another thread: ...wait to see if they can cut it... remember Southampton, Norwich and Swansea all flourished with lower league players from their time in league 1 - neither crass or sad! We need players. We have to shop at the pound shop. ( we would like to have enough money to shop at Aldi; but we can't ) The manager has to assemble a team. What else would the knockers have him do?... Sign The Man City first team?? |

I liken it to teams in a world cup group - lets for arguments sake say a group composed of Italy, Uruguay, England and oh yes Costa Rica.... the first 3 all contain players bought from Sainsbury's at premium price and command fees that only the elite can afford - the latter all purchased from poundworld - but wait - the team assembled from poundworld made up of players nobody has ever heard of let alone seen play - can come out on top if disciplined, organised and have the desire........ you just never know.... http://www.newsnow.co.uk/A/719807740?-11196:840 I think Matt Sadler must have read and agreed exactly what I said here. "He has all the Tools to be a top player" This Guy Donaldson could be icing on the cake. Edited by zxcv, Jun 23 2014, 10:47 PM.
