The gaffer of the Goose and Granite (or the Kings Heath bare knuckle boxing centre as I like to call it) once told me the reason you get ill off Caffreys is that it's full of Nitrogen so you get the same effect as the bends (what divers get). Mind you he also told me Carling didn't have any chemicals in......... |

I have to admit I only drink Guinness if I am in IRELAND.....for one thing they know how to pour it over there (if you love your pint with a jet black body and a snow white head be prepared to wait a few minutes,a perfect Guinness has to settle) and there's the old saying that "beer doesn't travel well" Had to laugh how Guinness ended up on a 'Lager' thread wtf** As for bad lagers .....Skol is the ultimate king.......along with Kestral and Hofmeister and the person who mentioned Grolsch was quite right......Cat's u***e of the worst quality Never cared for San Miguel in Spain either......slowly dissolves the stomach into a mushy pulp...........probaly didn't help drinking 31 bottles of it in one night |

Have you noticed as soon as a quality foreign lager gets popular here they start to brew it here under licence?! THAT's when the quality drops - Stella is a case in point - when it was a Belgian lager it was great. Same with Budweiser -an absolutely foul drink in the UK, but absolutely delicious in the US. |

Same with Fosters - I quite enjoyed it in Australia although it's been almost 20 years since I was there..........The XXXX was good too while we were in Queensland Fosters in the USA is actually brewed under license in Toronto,Canada....so you can enjoy an Aussie beer with your hot dog that was imported from Canada wtf** ...although it's nothing like the Aussie brew It's the same with cheese....you can buy Irish Swiss Cheese in the States......I mean HOW can you have Irish Swiss Cheese....surely it's either Irish or it's Swiss ??? wtf** .........Only in America as they say You can buy many British Isles beers in the US these days..........Bass,Boddingtons,John Smiths,Old Speckled Hen,Tennents,Harp,Mcewans,Tetley to name a few and they still sell Newcastle Brown.... **thumbup |

when in belgium last year i had the dubious honour of drinking some of their "specialist" lagers - they have hundreds.... the worst taste of anything by a mile was a concoction called kwak lager - i'd rather poke my own eyeballs out with a toothpick than drink that again.. <_< |

I lived in Brussels for a couple of years and I am too fond of their beers. Each one gets its own special glass everytime without fail. Favourites were Maes, Stella (proper belgian stella), Duvel, Orvel and all three chimays. In the states there was absolutely no way I was drinking Bud light or anything light for that matter. Found the odd bar that sold Stella or Boddingtons, but mostly drank Newcastle Brown (that beer is everywhere in the states which suprised me!), Doseqis and all the different Sam Adams beers (Black Lager, Summer Ale etc). |

I loved Kwak!!! Did you drink it in the "yard of alle" flute style glass that comes in the wooden stand? When I lived there I told everyone when they visited that they had to wear gloves whilst drinking Kwak, we were very drunk. In all their photos from their visits there is always someone in the picture wearing black leather gloves and drinking Kwak from a "vase". Orvel came in a big studded goblet, made me feel like a viking. |
