Wow what a team that was Brian Hughes 21 years old. Show`s how far we have fallen from grace. With that team today I recon we would be easy top 10 in prem which tell us how far football in general has fallen. What I would give for a young Jon Macarthey today. Love these old clips.

Steady on zxcv, we're starting to agree on something.

I enjoyed watching that team and as zxcv mentions, Bryan Hughes and Jon McCarthy. Great players with great skills. Chris Marsden I rated as well, someone to "cement" it all in midfield. Was that the season when we drew 4-4 at Bramall Lane?

Chris Marsden - he made the game look so simple, great passer of the ball.

Jon McCarthy - loved him when he was in his prime, a good hard working skillful winger. Shame he kept breaking his bleedin leg.

Bryan Hughes - Remember this below ?.

Nicky Forster was another favourite of mine - nippy, clever and dangerous. Always score goals at that level and was still a relative youngster then - anyone remember why we eventually let him go?

Chris Marsden was coolness personified, never saw anyone ruffle his feathers, always seemed to have time on the ball to make the right pass never hurried. Was a great shame Jon got so many injuries, what a worker as well as skill on a par for me with Stan Lazerigous. (spelling) Trevor was unfortunate for me as he arrived as manager when the Championship was so very strong loads of good players around at that time and we were so close to being a top side. That era was one of the closest to The Goodwin era along with the Jim Smith era for me. Anyhow I better let you lot get back to your moaning.

Nicky was a really promising prospect but lacked physical strength, not sure but I think we moved him on due to injury`s. Trevor`s biggest mistake was selling the first player soon after he got the job, that was the Lad (can`t remember his name now) who ended up at Liverpool and was a regular for a good few years (a winger).

By the way Forster was a really nice bloke would chat with you as long as you wanted to.

**thumbup Cheers

The winger was Steve Finnan. When Trev arrived he shipped out a few promising youngsters and went with Prem experience. Some of them were massive hits (Bruce, Furlong, Abblet, Horne) :applause: and some of them were Mike Newell. :crying:

Was there too, had to avoid some aggro before and after the game, Stokies were really fired up.

Same season as Oxford away where we won 7-1 ?

even better than the scoreline was the quality of goals

hughes second (our 2nd goal)
forsters (our 3rd)
mcarthy's (our 5th)
furlongs 2nd (our 6th) - fantastic counter attack and skill
furlongs 3rd (our 7th) - fantastic strike and great invention, the type of strike if bergkhamp did it they would still be talking about it to this day

This is getting into unknown territory zxcv. We are in more agreement!!

When TF was the manager it was a great time and he was a tad unlucky. The Freddie Goodwin era was for me the best and those Jim Smith days were great.

A season which ranks high on my list is that 06/07 promotion season from the Championship under Brucie. It was entertaining stuff and going to away games was great - everytime we expected to win and many times we did.

I better nip over to that other thread and have a moan now.

hang on before we get carried away with Trevs signings, Mike Newell & Barry Horne were disasters both gone within months Furlong was the original sickie great goal scoring ratio but never fit Ablett was Ok that leaves Brucie yes legend, as for Finnan nnever made 1st team at blues then went to notts county didn't raise his game for another three yrs to attract Liverpool.

Trev as a manager had the same faults as Glen Hoddle arrogant and didn't try to bond with players!! Such a shame, so many ex blues slate him as a manager but we love him as a player.
