I'm feeling optimistic about the new season and our new players. Our home form can't get any worse so I'm looking for a big improvement at St Andrews and maintaining our good away form. Hopefully we wont be shipping in as many goals throughout the season and we'll have a better defence. We still need another striker or attack minded midfielder as there's pressure on Donaldson but I believe he'll come good. I think this division is full of average teams with average players and will be even tighter than last season and very concertinaed. I'm keeping the faith with Lee Clark and going for us to finish top of a bunch of teams all on the same points but we just scrape through because of our better goal difference into 6th place. |

I'm with you, i think defensively we need to be alot harder to beat (especially at home) and i think the players bought in will help with that, all pretty solid signings imo, if we can maintain our decent away record and improve at home which is the reason we struggled so much last year then there is no reason we can't be in the mix of teams trying to get into the play offs, obviously we have to be rank outsiders and i can see why some would have us down as strugglers but i genuinely believe we could be a surprise package this year. i like you would like another striker and attacking winger..i put us finishing 9th but i think this would be a decent finish. archiesbluedad, I've got to admit I'd never even heard of two of our new boys before they joined the Blues and I saw them play for us v Cork but we are as you say an unknown quantity surprise package and I believe a settled team will be fruitful for us this new season. We've got to retain the ball better and defend as a whole team and be zippy going forward with good crosses from the wings. Sounds simple dunnit? Let's face it none of us knows what this squad will do or even shape up yet until a few games into the season and in the heat of the battle but it's fun predicting/wishing/hoping whatever. Anywhere above 10th will be an achievement so I think goal difference is crucial. |

I've plumped for 12th but I can't help feeling that the declared high tempo "more attacking style of play" for this season is going to prove productive throughout the next campaign if LC can weld it onto our new squad. If you recall, our Jekyll and Hyde performances throughout last season from one week to the next even without a change in the team were cringing and those episodes (like I tried to post at times it happened) can not and should not be blamed on the manager, for it had to be down to individual squad players who simply weren't playing together. If Lee Clark and his coaching staff can hold our new squad to this, then I think the problems Blues had out on the pitch (whether at home or away) in the 2013-14 Championship season may be eradicated once the new squad gets used to playing with each other! :Real Ale: Lee Clark's Intense Blues Training Session! 16th On one hand I think Clark has brought in some decent players in Glesson and Donaldson, and the lack of loan players at the back will hopefully provide greater defensive solidity. I also find it hard to believe that we will only win two again at home. Clark has gone about his business well in bringing in players quickly :applause: and this is definitely 'his' team rather than youth loans so that should stand us in good stead. On the other, we will no longer have Macheda or Huws who we will all agree were extremely important in keeping us up (and that's before we mention players such as Ibe and Ziggy who split opinion.) The players are generally from a lower division which often - but not always - requires a 'bedding in' time. And finally, we still have Clark in charge. Towards the end of last season he struck me as someone who was out of their depth and working his way through line up after line up, formation after formation and hoping something would stick. As much as I tried - I'm normally inclined to give people the benefit of the doubt - I struggled (and do struggle) to see what his strong points are beyond player recruitment. In other words, he's good at getting players in, but I don't think he really knows what he wants to do with them. Last pre-season we played 3-5-2 throughout and then abandoned it on a whim and given he has so many new players I believe Clark will find it hard to resist his impulsive and reactionary tendencies as soon as something goes wrong. Still, he might really have sussed something out this time. We may surprise people, but I say that much more out of hope than belief or expectation. Still, at least we're not Blackpool with 8 full-time players on the books! :silence: |

Excellent analysis Charliedontsurf. Also remember we had two very good central defenders for haldf the season as well - Bartley and Burn. |

21st last year with one of the worst scenarios ever at Blues, I expect we will do better this term with a more positive feel about the squad, and more stability than we have seen for three seasons. I've put 13th, to defy bad luck. |
