On the day that we are told by the patronising home office minister that lost luggage is preferable to death were hit by a media hype again form the BBC.
If theres a threat of terror and the threat is as real and as possible as we are led to believe why do our press need to overhype stories and over react to the smallest thing. Is it in the preses intrests to sell the fear of terror? Is there anybody out there that sits through the daily splurge of news reports on tv, radio and in our newspapers and swallows everything there told without question. I'm a little fed up of being treated like an idiot by the government and a fool by the press. |

Since when as the British press ever made sure it's got it's facts right before releasing a story? |

it's not there fault realy , when things happen like this it is usually reported to them by members of the publick and they go with it because otherwise some other broadcaster would instead. the media buisness is like most buisness to get the story first wither it's inacurate or not. |

I agree that the media will sensationlise a story for political, but more often financial gain (selling papers, subscrptions etc) I don't think the BBC are anywhere near the worst offenders. In this case, it appears to be sloppy reporting, publishing a story that hadn't been checked out properly rather than an attempt to sensationalise. However, this kind of reporting can be just as damaging. At least they retracted the story half hour later once the mistake had been realised. There are plenty of sensationist stories about, pick up any redtop, or tune in to Sky News for their "Analysis". But I don't reckon this is one. Gazza |

BBC News 24 is far better than Sky News that's for sure. When this story broke it was announced that a statement was made from Manchester airport that an incident had happened at Gatwick! Confusing from the start. Incidents happen every day but in the current climate they're getting reported within hours without the facts. The public must shoulder some of the blame. while people are hungry for on the spot, minute by minute reporting there will continue to be mistakes and half truths told by 24/7 news channels. |

The BBC bias is the source of ridicule worldwide. Some of the dozens of sites that deal with the never ending BBC bias are worth reading. Try for example http://littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog/?entry=4571 |

last night i went out and bought a load of new cd's, dvds and books. I can't seem to be able to watch the television without having to sit through news reports on terror, or radio interviews reporting the same and with nes papers you may as well rip out the first 10 pages and read whats happening in the rest of the world. |

You're joking surely? The Americans have to use it to find out what's going on in their own country because of the bias there (and the fear of upsetting advertisers). Great link though. It's accusation of Bias is incredibly pot/kettle and perhaps doesn't do you great justice in it's quotation. Do you have something with more weight and indipendance, Press Complaints Commision for example? Gazza |
