Wasn't it quiet tonight?! It seems to me that 5 years ago if we'd have been playing Liverpool at home in the cup, the atmosphere would have been electric even before kick off and the noise throughout the game would have been immensely greater than the occasion patches the evening. I'd put this down to fans thinking we're now on a different level, and still bemoning the fact the Liverpool at home isn't just another game. We're still the same fans, Liverpool are still a massive club, so why so quiet? While I'm on... what's with these posts of "pathetic" etc, it's unbelievable really that people are moaning again (didn't take long did it). To me, Danns and Nafti had a terrific first half and it was good to see Jerome putting himself about a bit. It made me laugh to read one message that both suggested we should be more like Southend (no disrespect a team of championship/division one battlers) and in the same post suggest that our players are not up to competing at Premiership level. Barmy. As the title of this post suggests, there's many a fan suffering delusions of grandeur, and the sooner our fan base puts aside this current belief that we have a God given right to be a top half Premiership club and gets on with some good old loyal, boisterous support the better! |

Maybe its down to the broken dreams. Anyone remember a certain someone saying just 2 years ago that it was an exciting time to be part of Birmingham City football club. Its not so long ago that we were an established premiership side. On par with Bolton, viler, Boro, Newcastle and the like. Maybe fans are still annoyed at watching the club destroy itself over the last 18months, signing donkey after over paid donkey, rubbish quality football and humiliation of loseing 7 - 0, getting thrashed by viler and relegated back to no mans land. |

When has anyone said that? the general consensus i've heard is that the fans want a premiership club in the premier league. Delusions of grandeur is a bit far stretched IMO. |

Apart from the last 15 minutes the spirit of the crowd matched the lack of spirit on the pitch. |

Boy do some Blues fans have delusions, you are right. Thinking you have an automatic right to Prem status, getting all hurt about losing a game, being unsupportive of their team because they had the nerev to be relegated. I have looked at Wolves over the years, their fans belived for years they had an auto right to be the top team in the UK, ever since Stan Cullis, they believed that all the way to third division (old money) obscurity. It has doen them absolutely no good at all, just harm all the way. I think some folk need to have a look at themselves and ask whether they are watching the right sport for them, or even if they should be watching sport at all. After all sport is about competing to be the best and as such you will win at times lose at times, you will get promoted and you will get relegated, you will have excitement and joy at the successful times, and you will have the downs and unhappiness. If people can't handle that, then maybe some other passtime would be better for them. |

It isn't about having an "automatic right", it's about having a bit of ambition. |

i agree to a point, but it's also about priorities and walking before you can run imo - we had a major player restructuring and it takes a little time to settle unbelievably, and with a fairly small squad we can't afford to risk our promotion ambitions for some cup chelsea, liverpool, bottom -nal and manure take seriously. realistically, we have little chance this year at the cups, lets concentrate on the bigger picture.... |

The over expectancy has been there since the end of our first season in the Premiership. Many a person assumed we were heading for a top 10 finish in our second! Why on earth should we finish higher than the Vile's, Bolton's, Fulham's etc. These are established Premiership teams, with (in most cases) established and experienced managers. |

I take your point about priorities although I do feel that the obsession with the Premiership, which we can't win, over the cups, which we could win, is worth debating. My post though was really a response to Wisel & others saying that some fans think we have an automatic right to be in the prem. Imo, with the squad we have (& our rich owners), anything other than the premiership is under-achieving. |

and again i share your view mainly - i think the preoccupation with the prem is linked though because to achieve that goal would (you'd imagine) give us better players, bigger sqaud and increased chances of cup success. i agree the league in it's present form is unwinnable for clubs like ours, so we have to build the best squad we can and go for the cups....which would be great imo..... **thumbup |

Fulham were promoted only 1 season before us, Bolton only 2 seasons (although I will concede that they were also in the Prem for a few seasons in the 90s), so why should we not be expected to compete with them ? |

I happen to agree with you entireley. I am one of those that kicked up a mighty fuss when we went on our bad run and i still believe that the jury is out on Steve Bruce this season. However I cannot believe some of the posts I have seen on this board. We have won 5 games on the trot and then come up against Liverpool at home. Now for me I cannot knock Brucey resting his stars. The league is far more important and Barnsley on Saturday for me is far more important that the Worthington Cup or whatever its called now. Ok the performance wasnt a great one but some of the abuse that has been posted in ludicrous and way over the top. I think a below par performance was mirrored by the fact that this game obviously wasnt considered as important as Saturday. I really dont see this as something to be too aggrieved about. Lets get behind the Blues against the tykes and keep the march towards the Premiership going. Keep Right On |

Still dont understand why people dont want to win cups though! If you win the League Cup you get into Europe. Would that be a nice thing to look forward to! |

yes it would be, but getting back into the premier League is a higher stake. Millwall got into the UEFA Cup and flopped in the first round (against Ferencveros of Hungary i think) i would like to think we would seek to establish Premiership status every season before thinking about European football |

But on the other hand what constructive action have the fans taken to alter things? Is maoning about it on here going to alter the thinking of those responsible for making the decisions ? has anyone let the commercial dept at the club know of their dissatisfaction with the pricing structure, has anyone asked them why they feel that substitutions and the like need sponsoring? Staying away to me is like cutting off my nose to spite my face. I can take people being unhappy and feeling let down as i do my self, but getting an explanation as to why these things are done would be high on my list of things to do if i were as unhappy as some. |

a very good point raised there willie. i know they do read these boards and are starting to realise just how bad the feeling goes. we have never realy been an outwardly critical bunch of fans at games and maybe this is the problem . i do know of quite a few people who have written to the club and questioned there reasons but never got a reply so i can only figure that they dont realy care what the fans think. |
