Putting my psychologists hat on here, whenevr i watch Gray play, the body language he gives off is of someone with absolutely no confidence in himself, hes probably terrified to try anything because the crowd react so negatively to him. He undoubtably has great ability, the first couple of times i saw him i thought wed got a real gem of a player, but its all gone sour. To compound this, he has a sort of disinterested look about him at times, im sure thats not the case but it just adds to the crowds frustration with him. Im pretty sure itll never happen, but i wonder how differently hed perform if the crowd really got behind him and encouraged him even when he ****** up, true of all players but especially someone like Gray who is obviously a confidence player and needs the proverbial arm around him to help him perform. |

does himself no favours i'm affraid. Before the game has even started his shoulders are slumped..he walks around like he doesnt care so why do u think the crowd dont bother try geein him up.. He reminds me of Fostino Asprilla but at least he could play football (when he wanted). KRO |

In total agreement, but alas our fans once they take a dislike to any player slaughter the guy and his confidence, I was willing the guy on in the second half, but all around me the crowd were on his back, it just does not help, cheer the guy on and he will get his confidence back. Mind you the treatment he has had from the manager does not help, I guess Grey has given up on the club and just wants away and a new start. |

my opinion is he should never play for us again. On wednesday i took my girlfriend to her first ever football match and she dont understand footie at all really and even she said Gray looked like a player who didnt want to play and couldnt be bothered. Now if she can see that we all can see that Bruce surly can see that then he surly should never play and get rid of him in Jan. |

Keep Gray. He is a good player and gives us options on the left. he does lack confidence and this is mainly down to the reception he gets from the crowd. In the first half on Wednesday he tackled back and looked useful going forward. He was not so good second half but that started after a mispaced pass and the angry reaction of the crowd. He gets few games and is not match-fit at the moment. He needs the supporters to get behind him. KRO! |

undoubtable ability - shocking confidence. And that is down to the SB and his team - being played as a LB for 18/24 months has destroyed his confidence in himself and the confidence of the fans. Could of been a crowd favorite if played in the right position IMO. |

it's not only down to sb though playing him out of position...surely any footy fan with more than 1 ounce of intelligence knows when a players is out of position? if so, why boo him ffs? and if it was just that why would it affect him when he plays up front? sb and our coaches must see what he can do in training every day or they wouldn't pick him. therefore a good proportion of his lack of confidence is directly attributable to the crowd reaction to him. imo of course... |

Surely its down to training, Gray turns his back to the player like a school kids when he goes into tackles, why does he do this? Its something that should have been knocked out of him on the training field. |

Absolutely right. SB's tactics a lot to blame. The Manager has had so much time and money to have sorted the Left Back position out at least two seasons ago. Also, some fans seem to "love" to make someone a "scapegoat" for their frustration. Matt Sadler is in danger of suffering this way. I hope he survives, as we could have a really good lad here. Julian Gray could fly down that wing if the fans were behind him. He's not a tackler, more a flair player who can win matches, but needs some fighters around him. This was sadly lacking on Wednesday. |

Correct mate, he came here with a glowing reputation having excelled at Palace, Bruce himself said after we beat Liverpool 1-0 away and i quote "that lad can be anything he wants" then the management team try to turn him into something he is not, a bloody defender, crowd gets riled with him, he is in and out of the team, never sure if hes going to play or not. I know he should have the bottle to hold his head up and get on with it and make the best of it but how many of us have worked for rubbish bosses who keep telling us to do things we are not used to doing or we dont want to do? In the end you just go through the motions, i think a move would be good for him and good luck to the lad when he does move, i cannot believe he hasnt put in a transfer request unless he has and ive missed it?? |

you say that but just because they didnt make many tackles - they didnt pull out of tackles when they had to make them either like Gray does Psss - dont goad me like that :P I know hes a LM but he has played the majority of his games for blues at LB and he needs to make more tackles there |

Yes but he IS NOT a left back, so with your theory we can play Dj Campbell at centre half tomorrow and he should be able to do ok??? You cannot fit a round peg in a square hole, something Bruce is only to willing to try, im actually beginnning we have a different Bruce form that who played under Ferguson, how can you play for so long for a genius and learn nothing????? |

Sorry, but you can't blame the fans/low confidence on the fact he's a tart and bottles challenges. He's playing the game he allegedly loves, get's paid a lot of money to do so, so at least we as his salary payers can give him stick when he's not given a 100% return for our money. Anyone remember Leigh Jenkinson (loanee from Coventry)? Played one game and after pulling out of a couple of 50-50s got sent straight back. |

AHH! read what I put. I said 'is being played out of position an excuse for pulling out of tackles' I have no doubt his best position isnt LB and have never claimed it to be but that is were he has played most his of his games |

players playing in position makes them comfortable and familiar with their role - that equals better performing players generally and the opposite is true... |

just playing in the side should give him convidence to be honest, im sorry but the lad clearly doesnt give a dam and either is happy not playing and getting paid or knows he is out the door come Jan. And we let Stan go and kept this muppet nice one! |

Gray is lazy, arrogant, overpaid and since the 1st christams he came has played well below his ability, this talk of the fans ruining his confidence is utter rubbish. He is my least favourite Blues player of the Bruce era hands down. Get shot ASAP. Even his goal against the viler cannot make up for him. |

I think Gray can be a good player, but you can't blame anyone except the man himself, yes playing out of position is never going to help, but that does not excuse the lack of heart he has shown to do what is asked of him. I'm sure somebody will pick him up in janruary, and we will then see how good he is after a fresh start. |

Totally agree with you and all of the comments about Julian needing support, he was a very good prospect player and im absolutely positive that if the fans gave him some support and just got off his back then he would regain his confidence and some of that sparkle he once had. Im not saying that its the fans fault or that Gray is blameless for the crowds reaction to him, but i just believe that he could still be a really good player for us with his confidence back. Fingers crossed eh. KRO |
