OK, I admit it, I 'm a season ticket holder in the Main Stand ! Full of all us ancients? Been going down since the early 60's so think I have reasonable take on what goes on around me and the ground in general. What is so obvious is the dramatic fall in attendances - no surprise there you say. No more so than in the Main Stand. For the Liverpool match I was able to buy the seat next to me for the wife at the last minute. wtf** (Not the wife but the fact that I could buy the ticket  ) Today, I was surrounded by Dads or "Partners" bringing little sonny Jim. Now while I think it's great to expose these future fans as soon as poss and at a great price, it made my blood boil to hear the Elders saying things like, "Who's that on our right?", "Shall I go and get you another tea?" (15 mins into the game), and the best, to me "What time will the game finish?". Again, It's great that we maybe will have future fans because of this but what's happened to the people who have had those seats for years? They're not all dead. (Irony) What's it come to when a match we should expect to win, and dare I say it, by a few goals, has less than 20,000 attendance. It's been said by many on this Board before that there's no atmosphere down at St A's anymore. I only renewed my Season Ticket on the last day I could to secure my seat. That's because I'm a stupid Blues fan and DESPITE the attempts by the Board to put me off I did! I'm glad I did, after all I'm a fan :( I know that our Board, compared with many others, is probably running the club on a good financial footing and for that I thank them. BUT for f***s sake please give a little credit to us fans. :copno: |

Ah, Greydog - I'm pretty much the same vintage as you. As an exile I don't get to see the lads live these days but... I'm really not sure if I could enjoy the match as much in modern times being trapped in the same seat in the Main Stand and having to live with those around me - more reflection on me than them of course. In the days of terraces you could choose your spot, stand with your mates etc. And if you fancied you could push off to another spot. The 'atmosphere' (or lack of it) is much discussed on this forum. Exactly the same has happened with Test cricket where the West Indies boys (for example) can no longer just roll up on the day and pay on the gate. Result is, less fans, less atmosphere. It's all safer and more civilised I guess, but at the cost of alienating lots of people :( |
