I wondered when the first 'suitor' would come out with a few comments to try and unsettle him!!

True thought they would have been out before now to unsettle him, but i have to say he would have to sit on the bench at the mo defence playing very well

It's never been a secret that he'll be a target for a couple of clubs (at least) in Jan. I hope I'm wrong but I would imagine he'll be off like a shot.

Upson would of gone last summer if he had not injured himself warming up at Vile Park, remember he was stalling on signing a new contract and then only signed it because he was long term injury.

In fairness to Redknapp this reads like a journo trying to make a story.

Imagine the questions :

Hack : "You seem to have an injury crisis in defence. Would it be true to say that you're looking at your defensive situation"

Redknapp : "blah blah blah but it's true I'm looking at our defensive situation"

later...

Hack : "Matthew Upson is one player of Premiership quality who may become available. Would you be interested if he did become available ?"

Redknapp : "Matthew Upson is a good player, that's for sure."

Hey presto : Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp admits he remains a firm admirer of Birmingham City's Matthew Upson.

What is he supposed to say to a journalist : that he isn't looking at his defensive situation & that he thinks Upson is cr@p ?

**thumbup if upson hadnt have got injured against vile he would not be here right now, and if he is back to full fitness before january i reckon he will be gone then.

Yes, but there is the theory that if Upson hadn't got injured during the warm up to the Vile game, we may have got a different result and consequently we may not have been relegated and then he may he stayed anyway.

I believe Upson has 18 months left on his contract. I stand to be corrected but the way i understand it if we sell him in January he will attract a greater sum than in july. By 2008 he will be practically worthless financially to us.. Therefore, IMO, unless he signs a contract with us before january, if a half decent offer comes in January we will be forced to let him go.

I agree that this is probably a non-story. But just suppose it was true. Wonder how Upson leaving us for the team that we should have easily beaten in the survival race last season, given the lead we had over them, will affect Mr Bruce's popularity rating?

I mean, leaving for Liverpool is one thing, but Portsmouth???

Big club? Ambitious Board?? Bright young manager??? Portsmouth????
