With Championship football and Crowds down, surely this must be the prime time to knock down this embarrassing outdated stand ?

If the board are expecting Premiership football next season, then surely this is exactly the right time to sort this out and complete the ground. <_<

no point knocking it down because they cant add anymore seast due to the flats behind the main stand being listed buildings.

might look better with a new roof on it though.

I've heard all this but Some clever architect could design something that would use the Road space behind the Main stand to give extra room. Maybe one of the builders trucks could "accidently" crash into the "listed" building rendering it unsafe ;)

There's always a way round these things IF enough money is available Or are the Board spent up so far as this club are concerned ?

Why do we need more seats anyway. We cant even fill the ground as it is.

The listed buildings could be moved brick by brick to an outdoor museum if the will existed.

I'm starting to think that the economics will never stack up for a new main stand. It only makes sense if we need substantially more than 30k capacity on a consistent basis. Even in the premiership to get crowds consistently above 30k we would need much lower ticket prices, imo, but it probably wouldn't pay back if ticket prices were reduced...

Maybe there is a scenario where Blues become a top 5 club & able to attract 35k+ crowds most weeks, but I'm not holding my breath. I think that the current main stand will be here for a while yet.

How many more times are people gonna bring this up.

And how many more people actually think we are a big enough club to warrant a new stand.

FFS look at the facts, look at the crowds, look at the cost of buliding a new main stand with 5000 empty seats in it every game.

For the last time - it is not going to built in the near future - that is from the boards mouth and they have said it several times.

To at least make it look like a football league stand, it looks so stupid against the other 3 , im sure there wouldnt be any harm doing it up a bit, like putting a new roof and adding a bar lol!

I'd like a new stand to give me something to watch when the on the pitch antics become to much.

I do agree though that it would be silly to get a new stand that either holds the same capacity or more simply to make the place look nice. vile dark has looked horrible with all that pink and baby blue for years yet they've done nothing about it.

Why did we abandon the 'City of Birmingham Stadium'? Surely theres something else that could replace the Casino. Some people say it's because we got relegated but Coventry got the Richo.

The planning permission is there to redevelop the Main Stand but it will NEVER happen because the board don't like spending such amounts of money.

They could at least replace some of the seats so they were all the same shade of blue

agree simon- they could do with just touching it up and updating it- as a minimum.

i do like the main stand though- its where my old man first took me to watch football when i was a kid and there is a bit of history there.

i went to the ricoh the other week and its just like all the other new stadiums- plastic with no character

the main stand is an absolute embarssment

even if it's just replacing the roof and removing the Floors 2 Go adverts in the centre of it for extra seats, it's better than nothing

the board are surely sitting on a new stadium being built for them, whether it's via England's world cup bid, a Commonwealth Games bid or casino licenses. they don't want to add any more to the current stadium.

supposing the 50-60,000 City of Birmingham stadium is built for 2018, we should still improve the current ground, even if it has say another 10 seasons between now and when the new stadium is finished

the City Council are still are still keen on the Birmingham Sports Village i'd think

What would be the cost of replacing the roof??

*googles Stadium roof cost*

Ipswich Town built a roof for the West Stand (now the Pioneer stand - they recouped the money from getting the stand sponsored) for a cost of £1.4m in 1982. that included removing the current stand and adding a 3rd tier of 4,000 seats

the main stand roof doesnt even cover everyone from the rain does it?

Alan Sexton a visiting West Ham supporter adds; 'The ground itself is three quarters of the way to being a top class stadium but desperately needs a new Main Stand. If this is built, joining with the Tilton Road and Railway Stands then St Andrews will be one of the best if not the best ground in the Midlands.  Atmosphere wise it was the best ground I have visited all season for sheer volume before and during the game. As for the concourses they left little to be desired and were extremely crowded, the scrum to try and get a pie was not for the faint hearted'.

well hang on, Main Stand is hardly an iconic and meaningful name now is it. it's just a generic name .

the Cadbury's Stand has a good ring to it :D

the capacity of the main stand is not the big issue, it would actually be alright if there wasnt that advert gap in the middle and it wouldnt look as puny if it wasnt so flat.

Hands Off the Main Stand

I got 2 to 3" space at the end of my knees before I start irritating the person in front of me, whereas in my days in the new Tilton I had ridges across my kneecaps by half time.

Lets go retro.

to go with the Spion Kop? lol

i think it could be extended with another tier if the new tier was steep like Maine Road's old North Stand

or to save space, built a second tier that hovers over the first tier

Just look what teh Vile did with the Trinity, they just went over the road !!. Not saying we should do anything with the main stand, because to be perfectly honest with you if i was the owner of the club i would not spend millions on a stand when we cannot fill the ground anyway !!!
