I know it won't do any good but I need to put down my annoyance at these mid day kick offs. I arrived from Preston at around 11-00 and as far as I could see it was a normal shopping day in the city centre. No shirts, scarves, supporters and this for a derby match against Wolves. Is it any wonder that the attendence was a measly 22, 000. I can just get there from the north - what about fans from further afield they have no chance.
And thanks to the tannoy system for ruining a superb KRO before kick off and being so loud at half time that I couldn't chat to my mates.

agreed!! I thought for once the stadium announcer would actually let us sing Keep Right On all the way through, but like the complete tart that he is, cut us off to announce the teams. Keith, nor Daz, would of done that!

With our club doing their (limited) best to try and get more bums on seats, I wonder, has it ever occured to them to advertise their special offers ? Just think about it, how many people on this board discuss the latest special offer versus ST price ? A dozen ?

How many people use this board in a week ? 100 ?

How many missing fans do we have ? 8 - 10,000 ?

If it seems to me that special offers need to be put out there, surely someone in advertising should know that as well me ?

Do we have a plan? Or is each special offer decided at the last minute and we only have our website or board to spread the word?

And look at that poll to see how far the users of this board travel.

My point is that the Band A B and C matches are up the creek. The big local derbies against the baggies and wolves have blown up in the planner's faces. Is PNE or Burnley a class A match ? How about cardiff ?
How can you decide at the start of the season which matches are going to be important? Not in this division. We don't have the vile and man U here, so who decides which matches are top price - like Leicester - big laugh.

So scrap the pricing, compensate the ST holders and let us know NOW,if the price is lower, how much a match will cost in 6-8 weeks time. Not 10 days before it happens. So you don't go scrabbling around doing refunds.

Then we'll get the people that internet advertising doesn't reach.

They need a bit of nous and a bit less desperation in our advertising/marketing division I think.

But, sorry, I never knew that, we actually take full page adverts in those papers?

yep. i can't speak for other papers but i would have thought they'd be in the Sun too. they normally run for a week before the relevant game. but, of course, if people don't read the papers, they won't see them so i agree that other advertising is perhaps needed.

do you know how much a full page advert is in the sun?? upwards of £53K per DAY - so if they were trying to sell 2500 family tickets to boost the attendance by 10,000 then the 87500 they would make from ticket sales would become a 22K LOSS by advertising for two days in the sun...they get a much reduced/free advertising in the Evening mail because they give the sports department so much exclusive news..

The Sun won't be much difference to the Mirror or Mail, in advertising costs will it? Was that the Daily Mail ?Or the Evening Mail? And was that the Droitwich Mirror or The Daily Mirror ?

I've never seen or heard of a full page ad for blues in a National newspaper, so I am truly surprised at jenfortnam's post. I know they don't do it in the Guardian or Telegraph. But, there you go.

If they did advertise, how about a complete rethink anyway ?

Compensate the Sts and just say £15 per match, every match. I mean how many do they expect for Coventry as opposed to Cardiff ? Do it now and watch us sell out.

bluejan, i agree 100%. Our marketing is short term, tactical, chaotic & generally very poor. No vision, no plan, no strategy.

thats true.

by the timing of the offers being known i would say it's a case of they see how many tickets have been sold and then come up with the offer.

if that is correct then it may be a case of fans not going untill they see there is an offer.

if so it may be that we have peeked as far as support we have.

Jan has hit a chord.
I agree with those that are concerned about our ability to market and discriminate.

We are not, anymore- as jan pointed out, in the comfortable position to know that Man Utd, Chelsea and the Vile will be sell outs. How on earth did we determine what would be Grade A or Grade C matches in this division?
And now, barely a week before a match we have a great re-organising of prices, refunds to those who have already purchased, find two mini-chavs and bring them along, or bring two mates - for goodness sake who is going to check ?

Desperate and amateur marketing.

The club may say they must do something, before we are top of the table with a 15,000 gate. Thats our seasons with our visitors.

IMO it is the years of being ripped off, stupid "guilt-provoking" letters demanding money to keep us afloat, years of stupid rip-offs like the blues watch that was free, as long as you phoned a premium telephone number for 25 minutes.
You younger fans might not know all of the scams that our billionaire owners have applied over the years, and it might go some way to explain why so many of us are distrustful of what ever they say.

It does with me.

When they say Bruce may be here in 12 months time, promotion or not, I ain't bothered, because I know it is claptrap. When they realise that Bruce is a money-barrier, his next slip up will be his last.

In the meantime, I will plod on with a match by match ticket. Take my chances on away tickets.(Only been to Cov anyway). And watch with bemusement as our great businessmen display their comericial knowhow and acumen in marketing a dead horse in the form of their pricing policy.

:crying:

The majority of missing punters are ex-ST holders. Of those, many won't return while SB is gaffer and others became disenchanted after last season's dire performances and have now lost the matchday habit. Can't see the attendances picking up much no matter what special deals the club comes up with. £5 would be a rip-off for what we're watching!

Birmingham City

Home games played: 8

Average: 20,428

Attendances Vs. 05/06 season: -25,4%

Highest Attendance: 24,238

9th best average attendance in the Championship, but to be 1/4 down in average attendance from last season is atrocious!
