Bendtner in Blues hint
By Tom Adams -  Created on 20 Nov 2006

Nicklas Bendtner has hinted he may be willing to stay at Birmingham City should the Midlands side make an immediate return to The Premiership.

The on-loan Arsenal striker has been in impressive form so far this season for Blues, and as well as scoring seven goals in 20 games for The Championship side the young star has also broken into the Danish international set-up - scoring twice in four appearances.

Bendtner recently stated his pleasure at being given permission to spend the rest of the season at St Andrews by Gunners boss Arsene Wenger, but his long-term ambitions remain in the top flight and the ambitious Dane is keen to succeed at the highest level.

Whilst the 18-year-old is expected to return to Emirates Stadium at the end of the season to fight for his place next term, Bendtner has now hinted that he could be willing to stay with Steve Bruce's side if they can regain their top flight status this season.

"The plan is to go back to Arsenal," said Bendtner in the Daily Star.

"The only chance of me staying on here is if the club get promoted to The Premiership.

As long as he is enjoying himself, and the club is acheiving we will have a chance, same goes for Muamba.

thing is if he does become available would we be able to tempt him.

he likes it here and it is only if we get promoted.

but what if others start sniffing? there was a rumour banded about that chelsea offered 4/5 mill for him in the summer.

he may not want to go to someone as big as chelsea but there are other clubs that would give him a place o the bench and could well be in europe by then.

we could justmiss out on him because it being hijacked.

agreed i do fear that if he did become available someone like a Newcastle or worse case a viler came in for him would he join us, i still think he will be an Arsenal player to be honest cant see MR Wegner letting him slip through the net.

Chelsea haven't made any offers.

Celtic and Rangers were both interested but Arsenal told them to go away.

I can't see us signing Bender. As much as would like to. If he is going to be sold then he's much more likely to go to an established premier league team.

He has been watched by some of the biggest clubs in Europe since his early teens. If the Blues managed to snag him, it would be an incredible transfer coup. He is playing, and scoring, for a highly respected international side by the age of 18. Talents like that don't come around all that often.

We won't get him, but it's nice for him to have the courtesy not to dismiss such a move completely out of hand.

I think these are the key words:

The plan is to go back to Arsenal," said Bendtner in the Daily Star.

"The only chance of me staying on here is if the club get promoted to The Premiership.

That, to me, says that he still wants to go back to Arsenal and that it is only a chance that he might sign for us if we get promoted. I'm afraid I don't hold out much hope, but at least we've got him until the end of this season now.

I agree. I think he'll end up somewhere else, but I very much doubt if it will be here.

But, you never know. ;)

50m to clubs who get promoted this year.

If our board make 20m of that available (and by that I don't mean INCLUDING wages) I bet he'd want to stay.

Good times at Birmingham City at the moment, good times.

Let's just hope Sullivan and Gold aren't too sparing with the money this time.

It could be another Scharner, Curtis Davies, D.Bent situation if we opt not to go for good players in the market again.

He's already said we don't need players in this window, but we do. The squad isn't good enough to run away with the league, anything less than certainly winning the league is a failure. If we've got 5m they might aswell spend it in this window, because we'll have a holy grail of 50m if we go up.

Do they want to REALLY make the most of the chance we have this time though? Will they make the same mistakes, hmmm. I don't know if I trust them, despite the fact I know they'd graft left right and centre for their team.

£30m is the expected average figure for next season.

£50m is with bonuses such as winning the league.

I think what he means is with the new TV deal coming in next year it is predicted 50mil will go to promoted sides instead of the 30mil as most years

£20m was the previous average, not £30m.

THis £50m figure has come from a report in the Daily Mail, which is usually as accurate in reporting as Savo was for the Vile.

what a dream it would be to have this kid, he looks quality and he's only 18!!....if blues win promotion and arsenal are willing to sell we need to make him and another class striker our prioritys, your only as good as your strikers and with him and another we could be a very serious outfit ...if the blues board show serious ambition then i dont see why he wouldnt join, tbh i recon we'll get another loan deal after he extends his contract with arsenal

i wudda thought we'd have enough money to sign him with the Pennant/Heskey money (and money saved by releasing players) from the last term

plus with upson probably going aswell in Jan, we'd probably have more than enough. i think an £8m price tag would be realistic

the ambtion aspect is another thing. he's only 18 and has PLENTY of time to eventually start thinking about Europe. but right now you can see he's just happy to be playing regular competitive football rather than rotting in the Arsenal reserves

This is our only hope really. He knows he will get games for us. If he goes to a bigger club then it's not guaranteed. I'm sure he's seen what's happened to people like Shawn Wright-Phillips that have gone to the glamour teams.

But of course, his decision will be taken by himself and also a flock of hangers-on that are no doubt looking to line their own pockets.

Live in hope, and you never know.

Arsenal aren't in the habit of letting go real gems at 18 or 19 and if they were to sell him to us I'd question if he was all that he was cracked up to be.
I know we got Upson and Pennant from them but they were already 23ish and Wenger had obvisously seen enough to suggest they weren't good enough for them.

Henry aside they're not over blessed with strikers, certainly not the 4 or 5 top quality ones needed to compete at the level they're out, so I can't see them getting rid without them having a really good look first.

As much as I'd love it to happen I think talk of him coming permantley is just that, talk.

You also have to bear in mind if he did sign for us we have an awful record in turning successful loan signings into permanent ones!!
Mind you Bendther is so good I think even we'd struggle to turn him into an overnight flop!!

Henry, Van Persie, Baptista, Walcott. :P

Bendtner want's first team football, that is why we stand a chance, obviously it depend's on us getting promoted and who else is interested, but I doubt he will stay at Arsenal, unless they give him a chance straight away, he will move on for first team football.

In the short term I think you will find, we will buy Larsson, and extend Muamba's loan period for another season.
