Bit of a memory jogging question here. Just put a post on another forum, I thought we had the record following for a post war match at Wembley of 56,000 for the AWS final against Carlisle (the Taity t-shirt one!) A Baggies fan has replied saying he was in the Carlisle end and there was only 37,500 of us and it was an equal split. Can anyone confirm my thinking ? Cheers

I thinks the Baggies man is aving you at it son, I do believe that it was a post war record of fans of one club to go to Wembley but dont quote me, do a bit of research and I am sure you will get your answer. :)

if that was an equal slpit then my name is jumping jack flash.

I remember thinking at the time that it was ridiculously one sided and was really difficult to keep a song going.

My thoughts exactlly, I was in the Olympic Gallery, and from what I can remember we had from the half way line round to the opposite corner. Great fun getting tickets for that one, away at Peterborough on the Saturday driving from Lincoln to Brum on the Sunday to be told to come back on Monday !!!!!

I also was there on that proudest of days!!!!!!!

I cant really see carlisle even having that many fans to be fair, I think Trnamere and carlisle games we had massively larger numbers of fans than the oposition

Your Albion mate is having a Giraffe!!

I was there and although I do not know the exact numbers there were certainly more than 37,000 Bluenoses there!!

We had approximately 3 sides of the ground to their 1 I would hazard a guess that the figure would be closer to 50,000.

An amazing day!! :D

The Baggies fan is totally wrong !!! there was not many carlisle fans there at all, why on earth would a baggies fan be there in the first place !!!!. I Thought we had more at the Blues , Tranmere game. 55.000 to my knowledge we all went down on west midlands busses !!!!!

I dont know anything about numbers but this brings a trip down memory lane! I went to the final in '91, it was only the second time id been to a match, i was 6, my whole family went, even my sister who was heavily pregnant at the time! All the excitement sent her in to labour but she was determined to see the team bring the cup home about 2 days later, and she did, she stood there in labour then went straight to the hospital afterwards!!!! Now thats a Blue nose for you!! Bless her. Went to the AWS final as well, and thought we had a lot more fans than carlilse, but then again i was only 9. God bless Taity!!!

we hold the recod of about 50,000 against tranmire in 91 but hatwas an all seater figure.

wolves hold the record for terraces from 88, something like 70,000 there then.

The record was not for the Carlisle game but the Tranmere 1991 3-2 Johnny Gale wonder goals final.

The tranmere game was immense. Was my first season supporting the blues. I remember waiting at five ways for the West Midlands travel double decker to come along. Very few tranmere fans there that day. Blues ruled the stadium. What a goal from John Gayle to win it.

Bringing the Club into disrepute is class ?

Tait should have been in the headlines for the right reasons, scoring the first golden goal at Wembley, not because he was a grade 'A' ****. It played straight into the hands of the local media who just love to give us a kicking!!!

The year we won it against Tranmere 3-2 there were over 50000 of us Blue noses at the final.

I still have the video (the game was on sky before they had any top class games and it was Andy Grays first year in the studion) and the BRMB tape of the game with commentary from George Gavin and a certain Tom Ross who was on the Blues bench.

I was one of the 2000 at the home game against Lincon in the first group stage.

That was one hell of a band wagon that built up.

Just had a look through some old programmes ....
In the prog for the pre-season fixture against the Baggies on 5/8/95, there is a regular Terrace Talk column by Ivor Crigman in which he refers to 'nearly 50,000 Bluenoses' attending that AW final.
