It might of just been a good idea to take one last look for the rest of the season

how many times have we said that though ?

if we had sold him 2 years ago we could have spent the money on a player who actually plays & who might have helped to keep us up

our wage budget is limited... we need to have the money on the pitch ....

I've just read that any deal for dunn will involve a large proportion of the fee coming our way after 25 games (so about 18 months) and another lump sum in 50 games (so about 3 years!).

So just in case people start saying 'where has the £1.75m for Dunn gone?' - ask again in 3 years!

Gifted or not,the fact's speak for themselfs and whilst we all Like Dunny and luv to see him play,It's maybe best for him and the club if he moves on.I mean even if he passes a medical at Bolton, who says he won't break down again and then Bolton will be in the same boat as we were.
Don't get me wrong,I would Dunny to stay,be fit and play every week but I don't think it will ever happen.

But if Dunny does go, who repaces him in that creative role. As I have siad earlier, there are VERY few creative players on our books, and this will result in even more of the horrible football that we have seen recently.

He hardly needs replacing, he hasn't played since October, since which we have accumalted mny more points without him. Great player, but is not fit often enough, shame but true.

Do you not think that scoring 13 goals and having a hatful of assists that McSheffrey has done a good job of filling Dunns creative role?

McSheff has scored more and probably created more in the last 5 months than Dunn did in 3 years and considering the guy started 46 games in 3 years I don't think we will miss him that much.

100% a quality player - but you have to be playing to produce the goods.

McSheff has done a STUNNING job, but at times he is our ONLY creative outlet - especially when Larsson is not playing. That is wrong - we cannot and should not be relying on one player over and over again, otherwise teams will simjply double up on him a la Pennant.

When Dunn was playing earlier in the season, many players were - individually - out of form. Considering the run we have been on, the way Clem has asserted himself in the middle, I really think we would benefit from having Dunn there - ansd that benefit, in my eyes, is worth more than the poxy amount we will get for him if we sell him.

Dunn does not play enough games - I am well aware of that - but WHO are we going to get in at 1m who can do a similar job? The only other player who comes close to him in that role is Koumass. For 1m Bruce could go out and buy a load of Championship level cloggers and battlers, but nobody who comes close to Dunny's skill, and even if he only plays 8 games between now and the end of the season, IMO he would still have more of an impact in those 8 games than the likes of DJ would in 10!

But if Dunny does go, who replaces him

since dunn's contribution to the majority of our games consists of sitting on his backside, i hereby volunteer my services as a replacement (don't try to fob me off with a wage cut though, i want the same as dunn)

i admire peoples loyalty to the guy and honest if he'd had more luck with injuries it probably would have been better for him.  53 appearances 15 as sub and 8 goals in getting on for four years from a player who cost us 5.5 million not to mention the wages he's had..  where do you draw the line and start to recoup some of that money.  I hate slagging players off, as i've said he's had a lot of bad luck.  I don't believe honestly he'll ever be truly fit.  I just think Dunny is a luxury we can't afford.

totally agree with this

I think he is the most gifted player we have on the books unfortunately he is never fit long enough to make a lasting impression in the side! and if what SB says is true he is now fit but wants a move up north. I don't belive in keeping a player who is un happy... if he has issues its best we let him go!!

I wish things were different but they aren't... the stats speak for them self :(

should we be asking questions of the club as to why we cannot keep this payer fit?

the same could be said of Forssell - both players have attained full fitness before breaking down once more. i know it seems like i'm dragging up old stories but we've heard before that this club does not take it's fitness issues as seriously as some payers would like.

what happens if he goes to another club and then has as sustained period of fitness - will be put this down to his luck and our bad luck?

big name players & injuries has always been a curse at this club

look at paul furlong, bought from chelsea, arguebly a very good striker before going to chelsea, constantly injured whilst with us and has since been playing reguarly for a good 3 or 4 years whacking in the goals and he is in his mid 30's

i dont think dunn will be like furlong cause his injuries are very very serious and i think his body wont last another 5 years, brilliant news for dunn and birmingham and once he is gone then both parties can concentrate on the future

Yeah and what happens if he stays and breaks down again?

Whether or not he is the most skilful player at the club its no use if hes sat in the stands 75% of the time, our good form has coincided with him being out i just dont see what he could add if he came into the team.

I can hear the stick now that the board and Bruce will take if we keep him and he breaks down, lets be fair if he has had a medical it must be the longest ever on record, that to me alone says the bloke has dodgy fitness. Get rid

so in your professional expereince you think that "this bloke has dodgy fitness" do you? tell me, what are your qualifications again?

this longest "medical ever on record" must have been pretty thorough to take the length of time it has - and guess what, he's passed.

i tell you what, instead of pontificating about somebody having dodgy fitness and not being able to see what he could add to the team why don't you just shut up and look at the facts for once.

Bolton - a club who are 5th in the Premiership - have given this guy a medical and he's passed. for me, that fact tells me enough that the long-term fitness of this player is not a doubt to one of the success stories of the Premiership!

so he can't be all that bad then can he? let's see how much it costs us to replace him if/when we're promoted.

I agree, we need a replacement.

We cannot rely on McSheffrey always delivering or always being fit.

McSheffrey cost £3m so a replcement for Dunn would cost at least that.

I expect the decision to sell was made at boardroom level and has more to do with finances than the team. The injury is just a cover.

DS would much rather have £1m in the bank than see a player make a contribution however small and see him leave on a free. Morrison anyone?

David Dunn is on the verge of joining Bolton after passing a medical at The Reebok Stadium.

The Birmingham midfielder has been in talks with The Trotters over the weekend about a £1million switch.

Former club Blackburn have also been linked with a move for the 27-year-old, but his next destination appears likely to be Bolton.

Dunn's fitness was Sam Allardyce's prime concern but having passed a medical, the Bolton boss will get the go-ahead to complete his signing.

Bolton are expected to make Dunn their first signing in the January transfer window later on Tuesday.

Lets turn it around and look at it from the other side. If we were about to sign a player with his injury record this forum would explode with people calling for Brucie's head.

so long and all the best for the future BUT..................

.....if it happens that you're injuries are finally behind you and you go on to play week in and week out i'll never forgive you for not repaying the club that nursed you back to fitness! I know both parties decided it was the best thing but you could have decided to stay and fight ur way back into the team!

all the best anyhow

Seconded David.

Best of luck with your new club, which I hope is Bolton, as I am sure Sam will get the best out of you.

Heres to many, many seasons in the Prem for you.
