Replacements For Dunn; any thoughts??

I really think we need to replace the role we always wanted Dunn to fill - the attacking creative centre midfield role who can get goals into the double figures.

Weve got plenty of defensive centre midfielders already and I think Danns has proved hes not quite up to this level (let alone the Premiership) and Kilkenny just seems abit to light weight to me.

I'd like someone in the Sidwell, Murphy, Barton role but obviously don't think we could attract those kind of players anymore.

Would be quite interested in Shaun Maloney, not sure if he'd come either though. Any thoughts?

IMO ...Kilkenny is a ready made replacement for Dunn and deserves at least a few games to prove himself

And Kilkenny won't be injured as frequently one would imagine

I'd agree. Give Killer the shirt and the responsibility andd i bet he'll do well. He deserves a run at least?

great question rich, but i don't see kilkenny ever getting into double figures for goals per season - i don't think he scores that many in the reserves does he? i'd like to see us pick up someone like brown at spurs who scores a few but can't currently get in their team.... **thumbup

problem is when were playing 2 attacking wingers, shef and larson, u need to have two defensive mids to cover thier positions.

Kilkenny has a good scoring record in the reserves, I think it would probably work out 1 in every 3 or 4 games, to be fair Dunn never scored that many. The job is to create goals, we already have our goalscoring midfielder in McSheffrey.

Brown has been at Fulham for a couple of seasons now, thats why you won't have seen him in the Spurs team. He's more of a holding midfielder anyway, not really what we are looking for.

I agree with the Maloney suggestion BluenoseRich, he would be a good accquisition, for sure!

Koumas, bit of an idiot but a great player, easy prem standard! He was awsome against Luton when the baggies were on TV last night. Could be expensive though!

Wasn't Danns bought in to cover for Dunns role?

I've moved this from another thread, this one is more appropriate.

At the weekend it said in a paper - I've forgotten which - Blues were haggling over a £1 million fee for Ipswich midfielder -
Gavin Williams.

Apparently Magilton is prepared to sell him, so is he the back-up for Dunny ?

How many starts has Danns had in the centre? I think the last game there was against Sheff UTD and he was immense there.

WE have Kilkenny and Danns he just wont play either of them in their preferred positiion, neither of them have had a decent run in the side to show what they can do, because of bruce picking from muamba/clem/nafti.
SO whats the point of getting another attacking centre mid in if hes not goin to play him. Isnt Maloney of Celtic a winger/striker anywayl???

Danns must get a run soon or what was the point of buying him, spend the money on that defence which is still dodgy and sell upson as well,he does not want to stay.

In terms of goals/games ratio, Danns' return MUST be better than anyone else expect McSheff from midfield.

I don't know what the objection is to Danns - he is energetic, gets into the box and can score the odd goal. He may not be the silkiest passer in the world, but I still think he would be better alongside Clem than another bloody defensive midfielder.

Agreed. Kilkenny can do a very good job. I don't think we need to spend during January.

I think we need cover at right-back and left-back.

I think we need cover at right-back and left-back.

Yeah one versatile player who can play all across the back would be my preferred option.

Larsson then for £500k, sell players like Gray and Tebily and I'd be very pleased with our dealings.

I saw him in a live game v QPR at Loftus Rd and he was the best player on the park.
